Fun with Fabric

Jun 30, 2009 Author: mytime | Filed under: Home decor/3-D items, Papertrey Newsletter, Tutorials

Well today is our Papertrey Ink Senior Design Team Challenge.

Nichole wanted us to utilize fabric by stamping on it, then using it in our project!

OH! MY! WORD! To me, that was a HUGE challenge-HUGE! I just sat there, not knowing WHERE to start. I use to be a quilter, but the day I began papercrafting my love affair with a sewing machine and fabric was O-V-E-R! I realized I *ONLY* liked sewing because I so enjoyed mixing and matching the fabric! I had more fun SHOPPING than I ever did sewing. Papercrafting was my niche!

Now my fabric is only used for my STAMPING projects, and my sewing machine for PAPER! (even those occasions are RARE!)

All that being said, my idea for fabric today is far from revolutionary-sadly! I wished I had some fantastic project to share, but this is sweet and simple.

I just decided I would view my FABRIC, as cardstock, and like making my own patterned paper (something I LOVE to do!).

I had purchased this glass jar because I just loved it! I have a “thing” for containers (in case that isn’t obvious! LOL!!) I don’t like them to be PLAIN JANE though, so I HAD to dress it up.

This challenge became PERFECT!

My jar was a whopping $3 at Walmart.

I decided to make a Memory Jar. Inspired by the idea my friend Alicia had, for a memory journal.

jar-topper-1.JPG

I made this so that it is something that looks pretty, and matches my home, that  I can keep out, in plain view, so I can remember to fill it with memories, or funny things my kids say. Be it daily, or weekly. As the events fit.

I can later pull out all the written notes to remember these great times or funny moments. As a mom to 3 small children, there are a LOT!

Sentiment reads: Where the flowers bloom, so does hope-Lady Bird Johnson

Here is my fabric, after it was stamped.

fabric.JPG

I stamped my fabric with polka dot basics, in sweet blush. I then added Guidelines in Raspberry Fizz

I chose the little flowers from Honey Bees , stamped in various inks, onto the Guidelines image.

I chose a large flower from Garden of Life as my centerpiece.

Once my fabric was stamped, I added the batting to the back.

layer-batting.JPG

I then decided to sew on a felt flower

sew-felt.JPG

and, add a button too!

add-button.JPG

Add the chipboard to the back of the layers, using ZipDry, for a sturdy base

ahdere-chippy.JPG

Applied lots of adhesive, then wrap the fabric around the chipboard.

adhesive-to-layer.JPG

It is then added to a die cut large scallop square, created from Raspberry Fizz cardstock, and secured to my Memory Jar lid.

Here is the top view of my memory jar

I added some adhesive rhinestones to the top.

new-topper.JPG

Then, of course some ribbon to the edge of the lid. Ties with a pretty bow, and flower shaped buttons.

Very quick and easy! Looks SO much prettier than your standard “jar” sitting on a counter.

Supplies:

Jar from Walmart

Fabric quarter

Quilters batting

chipboard

Zip Dry

Stamps: Guidelines, Garden of Life, Honey Bees, Flower Garden Sentiments

Cardstock: White

Ink: all Papertrey Pallette ink

Vintage Buttons: in Raspberry Fizz & New Leaf

Contest WINNER!! and a lil sample

Jun 30, 2009 Author: mytime | Filed under: Contests, Stampavie

Winner!

OK SUPER QUICK POST! I am on the run here.

After all the entries were entered for the Weiman Wranglers Contest—>HERE! The winner for the Pink Cat Studio $25 gift certificate, chosen via www.random.org was Kaylah!!

Kaylah please email me so I can forward your Gift Certificate to you!

I’m so excited to see we are SO CLOSE to raising $2,000!! I KNOW we can do it!

I really want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the support of this amazing cause in honor of Ethan! It made all the hustle and bustle well worth it! I’m so happy over this.

On another note: after lots of emails 😀

Yes! I am alive!
I am just super busy getting ready for C.C. Designs next release starting tomorrow, Papertrey Ink Senior Design team challenge and the release with My Timeless templates! I KNOW its not like me to NOT post, but my summer is always FULL! In a good way.

Lets not forget I’m finishing up stamp orders (almost 325 orders were shipped according to my receipt!), the fact I have 3 kids (plus one adopted neighbor child! LOL!) who want to actually DO THINGS on their summer vacation.

Seriously, its not almost July! Can’t be!

I just cannot get any older, because it feels like the older I get the faster time is whipping past me.

I find it strange, as a Stay-at-home-mom, how some days can seem to last forever, yet the time goes by so quickly! I have been really taking the summer to enjoy my children. They are at the BEST ages 4, 6 and 9. They are able to travel well, and low maintainence! Plus they still love spending time with me DI know that will change so I’m soaking in as much as I can.

I have cut WAY back on my workload, yet I always seem to fill my time with something to keep me busy! LOL! I’m certain Im not alone in that. Summer is always more crazy because I cannot stand being home when the weather is good, and most of my friends who work, are home with their children so we have lots of play dates. YIPPEE!!

OK so I do have a quickie sample for ya!

wishing-you-luck.JPG
Wishing you luck

This was for one of the Stampavie Challenges: Use flowers

I used the Rachelle Anne Miller:Lily-Springtime image. (not the best photo-sorry! It was the same day ALL my bad photos were taken! EEK!)

Then added a sentiment from Papertrey Ink: Wishing You. I LOVE my layout 😀

I thought with all the 4 leaf clovers it was really cute 😀

Make sure you check out the Stamp Avie Blog for PEEKS at a NEW! Stamp Line! (I’m dying to get my stamps!!) Can you say ADORABLE!!!

OK I’m off!

Thank you to all who stop by and take time out of their own busy life to visit me here 😀

Hugs to ya!

Happy Saturday!

Feels like summer!

We are off the the Sea & Science center in Manchester NH with the kids.

I have cut WAY back on all my design commitments so I can focus more on my children, family and pursuing my template designs, and MAYBE stamp design 😀 My true passions.

Sorry this is late. I had a day out of the house and spent some time with my children, so I’m sure you understand!

Tomorrow I will spend the day packing orders from my HUGE STAMP SALE!! Paulette and I are buried in stamps and our houses are TRASHED! LOL! All the orders stacked and getting ready to go out! Some will ship Tuesday as I alerted the P.O. of how many packages we have (well over 100) and they asked me to break it up for them! We live in a small town, so you don’t want to upset the P.O.!

Yesterday we went to Build a Bear to make Ethan’s sister Ava the Pawsome Pony!! We have two outfits-one ALL GIRLY, and the other is ALL boy. We stuffed out hearts and prayers in the pony, and left it “open” so Ava and her family can stuff their hearts and wishes in the pony too!

Amber decided Ava HAD to have a set of ALL Girly clothes for her pony so she could make it a boy or girl. She did all the “styling” of Pawsome Pony for Ava (basically she chose the same outfit she loved for her own Dog she created) Avawill get to name the pony and stuff on her own, online. Now she will have BOY Cowboy and Girly clothes for the pony. We also got a bandanna and a Saddle!

When you squeeze the hoof it says I love you! Alexa decided we had to include that.

I don’t know WHO had more fun, me or the kids. Amber decided she wants to have her birthday party there! OK! Now I know!

I let my kids make thier own animal! They want to be “featured” here (My kids LOVE when I put their photos here! LOL! My husband, not so much!) with their animals, and share photos of the Pony that they made for Ava. Another post, another day. I think Ava will really like it! I wanted to make one for myself! LOL! Lot’s of fun.

OK so onto the challenge!

This week we have a color challenge, and I asked the My Time to Create Team to use the NEW! Weiman Wrangler’s Digi images for our challenge.

Please read about this set! All proceeds benefit the Make A Wish Foundation of Illinois in Honor of Ethan Weiman!!

Today’s challenge is the PERFECT opportunity to help you get something together to enter to WIN the $25 gift certificate to Pink Cat Studio! –>READ HERE<—

No limit to number of times you can enter, as long as it is a NEW! creation, each time!

Link your creations HERE:

PS IF YOU ARE USING THE WEIMAN WRANGLERS—->PLEASE LINK IT HERE, AND IN THE CONTEST POST! That way you are entered in the contest!

Here is my take on the challenge

celebrate-ethan.JPG

We’re Celebrating

I think this is so cute!!!

I thought this would be the ULTIMATE cute  Cowboy themed birthday invite (or card to give the Birthday Cowboy!)

I LOVED these colors for the Weiman Wranglers Digi  Set! I normally go with red or blue, and chocolate. Great to step out of my color comfort zone!

I used the horseshoe image from JustRite StampsNEW! Favorite Occasions Borders & Centers Set 1-5/8″  and the We’re Celebrating from the NEW! Celebrations Demi Phrases Set 2″ . It was PERFECT (I think) for this card.

Overall this is SIMPLE, but it didn’t NEED much more.

So I hope you get to give it a whirl!
My contest ends Monday!!! So get a move on 😀

Alicia posted a SPECIAL booktoday on her blog!! She made it for her son Ethan, to remember all the things he used to say. The photo of the two of them had me in tears!

Thanks for stopping by. I have much to share as the days go on!

I cannot wait to see what YOU do!

tissue-flower-3.JPG

I am very excited about today’s project!

Keeping up with the trends, Going Green is very HOT right now! Reusing items that we already have is not only great for our environment, but FUN!

I find, as a papercrafter, I save a LOT of things! Always with the HOPE of finding a great new use for it! One of them being the tissue paper that comes with many gifts we receive. It is so pretty and comes in a large variety of colors! I have always wanted to find a fabulous way to recycle it, and now I have!

I call it a Fancy Flower Flourish Closure

tissue-begonia.JPG

This idea came to me after a childhood memory. I remember going to the carnival and ALWAYS wanting one of those LARGE tissue paper flowers, on a stick! So expensive back then. I was never able to get one :C But, now I am grown so I can make my own mini version.

I decided to play around, and make this childhood memory a reality, but also with a little more FANCY FLAIR!

I wanted one of these flowers to be part of an elastic closure for my newest My Timeless Templates: Card Couture. I knew it would beautiful, and look so elegant, as the main focus of the template! I have to say it makes you say WOW! when you have it in hand!

I began my quest by punching some tissue paper with my Giga Flower Punch by Marvy. While I was getting the EFFECT I wanted, I knew I wanted it to be a little more fancy, and stamp related!

I wanted to put a pattern on my flowers. Something elegant. Not just polka dots, or scripty writing. More like a pattern on EACH flower petal. I then pulled out Damask Designs! The small flourish fit PERFECTLY on EACH petal of a very elegant looking flower! I was over the moon when I figured this out!

Now let me show you how it works!

Making Fancy Flower Flourish

tissue-5.JPG

1) Stamp one cardstock flower base, and at least 4 tissue paper flowers, using Damask Designs.

You wil want to use ink that is a similar shade or darker than choice of tissue paper/cardstock.

flowers-stamped.JPG

2) Punch holes in centers

string-1.JPG

3) Using elastic cording, string on button, them put through the tissue paper flowers first.

string-rest.JPG

4) Now put trhough the cardstock flower, and pull though

button-on.JPG

This is the close up

printed-flower.JPG

5) Pull petals up, each laer separately, and scrunch together!

NOTE: I added another button to the button center of my creation.

6) Optional: Adhere punched, stamped, or Prima Leaves to flower cardstock base.

 For Attachment to Card Couture:

open-file-begonia.JPG

1) Punch hole in the lid of template.

2) Insert large eyelet.

3) Pull strings from Fancy Flower Flourish through the hole.

4) Close lid, and tie elastic closure, tightly around template. Knot elastic cording.

side-view.JPG

Now you have a beautiful, elastic closure for your Card Couture Template, or to use to embellish ANY project!

Supplies:

My Timeless Template: Card Couture ©

Stamps: Damask Designs, Mega Mixed Messages, Guidelines 2

Cardstock: Spring Moss, Raspberry Fizz, Sweet Blush, Hibiscus Burst

Patterned Paper: Friends Til the End, Bitty Box Basics

Ink: sweet blush, ripe avocado, raspberry fizz

Vintage Buttons, Raspberry Fizz stitched grosgrain

Recycled tissue paper, Crop a Dile, Giga Flower Punch, Elastic Cording, Large Olive eyelet by SU!, eyelet by SEI, Tag die cut by nestabilities

So there you have it!

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial today!

Gone Fishing

Jun 24, 2009 Author: mytime | Filed under: Cards, Stampavie

YEAH! The Weiman Wranglers Digi set has raised over $1,000 so far!
Thank you everyone! That is very exciting.

I have a few more samples to finish, and will post them soon.

I am working like a crazy woman here, clearing out my stamp room 😀 My friend Paulette and I are having a HUGE Stamp “tag sale” here! SO MUCH STUFF YOUR HEAD WILL SPIN!

We are buying a scale so shipping will be a no brainer. Ill post either tonight or early tomorrow!

Now onto the card

Something I admittedly do NOT do enough of……Masculine/Boy items.

Sometimes you just want a cute boy card!

Wishing you luck

ele-fishing-card.JPG

I think this fits the bill, perfectly.

I created this card with the ADORABLE image from Stampavie- Rachelle Anne Miller’s Spring Line—>Going Fishing

I did some airbrushing, and coloring with Copic Markers. Her images are just the best! I hate to say I favor these little animals. While ALL her stuff is amazing, I just adore them to pieces.

I thought it would make the CUTEST “wishing you luck” card! Afterall, when are you going fishing, luck is definitely a NEED! Not that I fish!! LOL! I went once, and was so disgusted! Not by the worms (which I did NOT put on myself-ICK!) but the fact that I never knew the fish scales come off on your hands! Now THAT was totally disgusting to me. I was also sad to just plop them in a bucket, to “eat” later. DOUBLE EW! I decided to leave future fish capturing up to the people who make their living at it, and will gladly pay increased prices for the mere fact I don’t have to do it!

Now we had a gross story, how about a cute one.

ele-detail.JPG

This little elephant actually looks JUST like a stuffed mommy and baby elephant I had (and still have) as baby. I adored the duo. They were so cute and soft and always on my bed. The Mommy had the cutest blue and white bonnet. I remember falling asleep looking at the two, always together. The baby was particularly cute. I should go get them out of my storage bin! They look as good today as they do 25+ years ago! (OH! LORDY! I feel old) I don’t feel like my toys as kids could or SHOULD be considered VINTAGE when you look them up in EBAY!

I hope Rachelle will design some other images with with elephant in the future, as I just ADORE it!

Thanks for stopping by!

I’d love to hear what your favorite animal image from the collection is!

Don’t forget to visit the Stampavie Blog! Lots of samples and inspiration!

Weiman Wranglers WOW! and some info

Jun 23, 2009 Author: mytime | Filed under: Cards, Contests, Pink Cat Studio, Uncategorized

Please be sure to read this post, if you haven’t yet!

(I have things to share- but this is my TOP priority today :D)

I’m so excited right now! have you seen the Paper Craft Planet homepage?

Well, Susanna Boyd was so sweet to place our tribute on the FRONT PAGE, and dedicated an entire Album there to Ethan! So be sure to load your creations there if you can!

Thank you Susanna and Jenn Tapler for putting that together. I am just so proud to be connected to so many amazing, giving, wonderful women 😀 Touched my heart in a big way.

WOW! Speaking of touching my heart, as a stamping community, by purchasing the Weiman Wranglers Digi stamps,  we have rasied (as I type this post) almost $700 for the Make A Wish Foundation in Illinois in honor of Ethan Weiman!

NOW, if you have NO experience with Digi Stamps : You will want to read my friend Tracey’s Post—->HERE! She worked VERY hard to put that together on a SUPER tight deadline (sorry girl!) for you all , to show you how easy it is. Tracey works for Dustin Pike,  and she is just the Digi Guru, in my opinion! She does things I never knew possible! She rocks!

Digital images are cool because not only are they INSTANT, you can re-size, layer, mirror them, and all sorts of fun possibilities.

I use digital images from All That Scraps

As well as one of my fave companies (they are ALL Digi images) : Squigglefly (oh boy I need to get some more stuff from them soon! I didn’t see their latest stuff!)

That being said Squigglefly (my friend Holly) has a fabulous VIDEO on using digital images! Check it out —>HERE!

I got some questions about COLORING the Digi images:

As asked yesterday-YES! You can use your Copic Markers! That is ALL I use with mine! I just print my image on my cardstock and Im on my way! I use Papertrey Ink Select white cardstock, and NEVER had a smudge issue.

PLUS they are like super easy and fun coloring for my kids! No mess with my ink pads 😀 LOVE THAT!

Chances to WIN: just by supporting this fabulous cause:

I am offering a chance at a $25 Gift Certificate to Pink Cat Studio—>HERE

Then Heather is also offering a generous gift certificate too—->HERE!

Vicki is offering a gift certificate too!—>HERE!

THANK YOU ALL so much!

May sound CRAZY, but I’d LOVE to raise $1,000! I speak from experience when I say Make A Wish goes ALL out for EVERY sick child, and each “Wish” definitely costs more than that. You can read our personal Make A Wish story—>HERE!

I know I spend more at a trip to the coffee shop, than these images cost!  For your donation to a FAB cause, you get some UBER cute images and a warm feeling in your heart, knowing you  are helping make the day of some very ill child!!

Thank you again for the support! You all are an amazing community of people!

OK, so I told you I had a BIG surprise today!

This is also why I have been a LITTLE more busy than expected 😀 A very good kind of busy.

When the world lost little Ethan Weiman, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I felt like I lost a member of my family. I never lost a family member that was close to me, so the feelings of sorrow and grief were unexpected, and just so raw. I knew I had to do “something”. So I took my emotions, and got some ideas, then made them  into something I felt would be an amazing tribute to Ethan.

I am over the moon, that with the help of Melissa at Pink Cat Studio, the design team, and My Time To Create Team (who seem to be like my unpaid assistants these days), we were able to make a wish a reality! Without them it would not be possible. Also I want to thank the Weiman Family for being so open to this idea, while they had just lost their precious little boy.

Well that BIG SURPRISE is ……..the NEW! Digi Stamp set The Weiman Wranglers!!

How cute are they?

This is a NEW! Digi Stamp release designed for the Weiman Family!

 ——–> CHECK IT OUT <———-

Seriously! Can you believe how AMAZING that it?

Now you can get some UBER cute images, and help a worthy cause!

Now these are a Digital Download-so you pay NO SHIPPING, NO STORAGE 😀 and you get them INSTANTLY! LOVE IT!

When I contacted Melissa with my ideas, she didn’t even hesitate! She is literally in the middle of moving, and MADE time to help out this family! I think that speaks volumes about her. I am so honored to be able to work for such amazing people like Melissa! I cannot even thank her enough for taking the time to do this.

Help us honor the life of Ethan Weiman by purchasing the Weiman Wranglers Digital Stamps. All proceeds will go to the Make A Wish Foundation of Illinois, per request of the family, in Ethan’s honor! Make A Wish fulfilled Ethan’s wish last year, when they gifted him with his horse Sanador, and a barn! Later, when Sanador passed away, they gave him another horse, named Questions! This organization really helped make Ethan’s dreams come true! It will be nice to be able to honor him, and give back something, to help brighten the day of some other sick child!

If you are not familiar with Make A Wish please read their site —>HERE

Make a Wish helped my own family, and I always donate to them, as well as the American Cancer Society!

SO let me share my samples with you, and let me know what you think! I’m so excited about all of this I could just scream 😀

In honor of Ethan, and his lil cowboy hat he always wore

ethan-hat.JPG
I just adore shaped cards.

I hand cut this cowboy hat from chocolate cardstock! Yes, I was proud 😀 I just tried to make it a smidgen similar to the one on Cowboy Ethan. A little distressing and paper piercing, and it was looking pretty good. NOT perfect! But good all the same.

The top has the fold. I used some pretty “masculine” ribbon from My Little Ribbon Shop. Love that place!

I adore the star center piece, made from brushed copper paper, and poppy!

ethan-detail.JPG

It was the perfectly simple, finishing touch it needed.

The Ethan hat rim, and Sanador’s (his horse in heaven) face is 3 D!

I loved it.

Now something for Ava…..

a-for-ava-front.JPG

I have had the MDF letter “A” for quite some time now. This is about 12 inches. Always meaning to use it. NOW, is the perfect time 😀 I have been on a MDF kick these days eh?

I wanted to send Ava an altered letter, using her NEW! Digi Download image. Maybe she can hang it somewhere, or put it on a shelf??

I had some pretty paper from Imaginesce, so I chose that for my base 😀 and my color inspiration. I wanted it to be sweet, and simple, yet COW-Girly, but not typical Cow-Girly! Nice cheery colors. I think I got it 😀

a-for-ava-letter-side.JPG

I used New Times Roman alpha set from JustRite Stampers, to create Ava’s name tag.

I kept it all relatively simple, and loved the 1/2 and 1/2 patterned papers on the “A”. The ric rac ribbon border added to the girly feel. I felt the angles of the paper,  brought your eye to the Digi Ava image, and sentiment: “The journey of a thousand miles, begins with a single step” which is from Unity.

ava-details.JPG

That sentiment has so much meaning to me, personally. The day Alexa finished Chemo, I saw a silver bangle with this message on it. It really spoke to me, and our journey through Cancer. My friend Paulette actually bought it for me!!! I wear it EVERYDAY, and it reminds me (especially during tough times) , that you WILL get through it, one step at a time. I just liked it for this project.

set-weiman.JPG

So those are my projects!

Please be sure to check out the Pink Cat Stamps Blog for more samples! Some of the Design Team were able to jump aboard, on last minute’s notice 😀 THANK YOU!

Oh and of course, the my My Time To Create Challenge Team  ROCKED out the samples with these images, so have a peek!
