First met me start by reminding you that its the 15th!
That means it is the LAST DAY to get the Sure Cuts Alot coupon being offered here:
I purchased Sure Cuts A Lot 2.o (since you all said I NEED it :D) and GUESS WHAT! Canda of Canda Craft (where I found the SCAL 2.0 for the CHEAPEST price around WOOT! WOOT!) not only has it on SALE! , but emailed me after I placed my order, to tell me that YOU, my PRECIOUS, much loved and HELPFUL readers will get an ADDITIONAL 10% off!
The code is: MYTIME10.
This offer will expire on 10/15/09.
The coupon will take 10% off of their entire purchase which will make SCAL even cheaper!
So seriously how cool is that? Those of you on the fence can now jump off! I am loving my Cricut Expression and have used it on numerous items (soon to be seen :D) If you have considered getting it, this is the best time. Its not the type of product that goes on sale. SO why wait?
OK now onto the crafty stuff.
Today I’m over the moon to share my final release projects with you, using the NEWEST! My Timeless Templates: Cash or Charge Trio (available NOW! for instant download :D)
Now I told you before that the trio of “cash or gift card” holders can hold other items, and I have given you a couple of examples. Today I’m sharing another TRIO project, where I take all the same elements and use them in the 3 different projects.
What has me uber excited is the fact that I am sharing my VERY FIRST beading project! I am sure many of you make your own jewelry, or give it as gifts, so maybe these will spark your interest 😀
FIRST let me say…….I have NEVER beaded before, AND I know I didn’t end up having ALL the correct supplies, but I’m still over the moon that my project came out so pretty for my FIRST ever try! Once I was actually in the process I realized I needed certain things. Me- being impatient, I just plugged along and made do!
Now, I don’t have a beading book, I just sort of went with it. I created 3 of the same style keychains. I thought they would be the best FIRST project-Again its NOT professional or perfect in ANY WAY, but I was proud of myself all the same 😀
(this is yet another reason I said I was addicted to BLACK this month)
Made with love
Here is my first keychain, packaged in a velvet bag (that I recycled from jewelry I got from Sonia Jung! I wear it so I don’t need the pretty bag some of the items come in :D). This will go inside the #2 Cash of Charge Trio.
I saw the heart and that was what sparked me making this! I fell in LOVE!!! I then found matching seed beads, and then the filigree style beads. I THINK I needed some end clasp thingy’s. Anyway….its really pretty in person.
I used the NEW! Text Style II, and Giga Guidelines to customize my box. I think its perfect for such a gift!
I then made the Cash or Charge #3
This keychain will fit in the pocket. Virtually NO stamping here!!! Easy peasy.
You can just tie it into the insert, and they can pull it out. Nothing too fancy. OR if you make your own bracelets, earring, or necklaces you can use the tabbed insert to put them on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How cool is that, seriously? Not only do you have a cool, fancy insert but a pretty pocket cover too!! If you do craft fairs, people are sure to love this presentation too.
Then, last but not least….
Now we had YET to show you that this can hold other treats, like my keychain. Honestly this templates PRIMARY purpose is for holding cash/gift cards, but you can possibly use it for other things. The MOST versatile template in this trio is obviously #2!
For this one, I didn’t create the slit in the bottom of the template. I just put some patterned paper to line it. My velvet bag fits perfectly in here. You’d never think this would be inside would you?
here is the back view
Super simple and fun.
Supplies:
My Timeless Templates: Cash of Charge Trio
Stamps: Text Style bkgd II, Giga Guidelines, floral frenzy (#1 template)
Cardstock: Aqua Mist, white patterned paper: black and white basics
Ink: Aqua Mist, Black
Ribbon: Saddle Stitch black
Prima Flowers
Simple and elegant.
I love my keychains 😀 Not to bad for a first go.
Now tell me….Have you ever walked down the beading isle? HOLY OVERWHELMING! People say stamping is overwhelming, but I think beaders have us BEAT! I had NO IDEA where to start!
I got some silver wire, the keychain toggle thingy and my beads. I had some wire tools in my papercrafting stuff so I was good there.
I think I need some end clasp things. I ended up stringing it through numerous times so it wouldn’t pull apart of unravel.
Basically if YOU bead, ANY basic supply help offered here would really help! I’d love to make more gifts like this and package them up for the holidays! I don’t know WHAT book to get or basic supplies!! I also don’t want to invest a ton of $$, just basic stuff. So anything you care to share, can help me and some of my readers. I’d appreciate it.
Honestly I shouldn’t even CONSIDER another “hobby”! LOL! But I like to mix it up 😀 I’d really LOVE to learn polymer clay too! I got a pasta maker for that purpose YEARS ago, but can’t find it :C Never even used it :C Oh well. Maybe I should stick to making boxes! LOL! I already know how to do that.
Well once again THANK you so very much for stopping by 😀 I hope you get to scroll down to view everything over the last few days. More importantly I hope I inspired you in some way to get creating!!
Till tomorrow….

Hi Lauren! Both of these sets are beautiful! I love the rich looking color combo of turquoise & black. KUDOS to you for spreading wings & trying something new like beading! 🙂 Be Sweet!
Great key chain – love the color combo – I have a bin of beading items – I love wire called tiger tail – nice and strong can use for everything and also you really need crimping beads – these are used to lock things like the clasp down – I would be happy to send you out a fewof them, a length of the tiger tail and some nice beads if you want to play some more – just let me now and email me your address!
Margaret 🙂
I love everything. I make Cancer Awareness bracelets so the thingy at the end is a crimping bead and you will need a crimping tool to make it look neat. You did a great job for your first try. Now where did you get that heart?
Becky
Lauren I LOVE it!! I LOVE to bead too!! ILOVE to look at Coldwater Creek for ideas.. they have some FABULOUS beaded jewelry in there that ALWAYS inspires me..

Cant WAIT to play with your new templates!!!
Oh, your projects are so gorgeous! I am like you am so overwhelmed when I go down the jewelry section in a craft store. But love your keyhain and the colors are just absolutely beautiful!!! You give me such inspiration.
Hi Lauren!
Great job on your keychain! As a papercrafter and a beader, too, I would suggest that if you plan on doing more beading in the future, I would invest in crimping beads and a crimping tool. You would be set to bead anything your heart desires. The crimping beads hold your wire securely to the clasp ends and the crimping tool crimps the crimping bead to the wire. Sounds more difficult than it really is, but very easy peasy.
how sweet of you to make me a keychain! LOL ;). Just beautiful Lauren! Love the versatility of these templates too — just terrific!
thanks for the reminder on SCAL — guess I know what I’ll be doing tonight – lol.
Hope you have a fabby week my friend – chat soon!
Gorgeous crafts! Love the colours!
Your keychain turned out great, Lauren! I bead and will reiitterate what has been said – you should get a roll of tigertail and some crimp beads. You will also need a crimping tool. The crimp will keep your beads from coming unstrung. A bead board is also helpful. HTH! There is an at-home concept bead company that I use: http://www.beadretreat.com Their kits come with the basic instructions and everything you need to make the item in the kit, so you don’t have tons of beads leftover. A consultant will also come to your home if you like and do a “bead retreat” – show you and your guests how to bead and everyone leaves with their project! I can recommend them. It’s a lot of fun and quick and easy to learn.
OMG this is fabulous – you can just send it right on to me LOL My address is…..
LOL Seriously who wouldn’t LOVE this fantastic gift. GIrl you amaze and inspire me.
Hugs
My best three suggestions have already been mentioned so I will move on to my next favourites. BTW the toggle thingies you used is called a lobster claw. If the keychain is really for keys, you might want to use an actual key ring next time. Instead of the lobster claw, add a jump ring then put the key ring on that. I just worry about security! But if this is to be used as a bag or zipper pull, then you chose wisely! For general beading I can’t recommend Swarovski crystals enough. You’ve probably used the flatback ones before, they are hands down the twinkliest you can get and the smaller ones aren’t too expensive. You might want to try a beading store vs a big box store though as craft critiques latest review has the big box stores as much pricier. In a box store, they may be sold under the name Jolee’s Jewels. Anything you do will look amazing if you throw some swarovskis in there. I live using spacer beads too so check them out next time you shop. Hth
Just another note, for super secure beading, instead of jump rings you can get closed rings (welded shut) as connectors or you can even get super tiny split rings which are basically tiny key chain rings. Oh, and I’m guessing you like bracelets with dangly things, learn to use headpins in that case. They are basically wire with a sewing pin type head on it. The pin can also have a loop or decorative head. You thread on beads, use your round nose pliers to make a loop and attach to your main piece of jewelry with jump rings. Super pretty. You can get an online subscription to Simply Handmade, Beads, Cards and Scrapbook Trends for about $10-15, not each, total. Beads lists basic techniques in every issue. Go for it!!
Fabulous first beading attempt Lauren! Love your templates too!
I concur with what the rest of beaders before me have said. You definitely need some tiger tail, crimp beads and a crimping tool. Or if you have regular flat pliers, you can get tornado crimps. With this style of crimp, you wouldn’t need a special tool, because you just flatten them with flat pliers.
If you venture past stringing, and want to try your hand at wire work, you would need wire (practice on copper or some base metal wire coated with silver before you get into the expense of sterling silver), round nose and chain nose pliers. You will also need wire nippers.
You know you can give me a shout if you ever need beading advice or help.
I absolutely love everything you do. I too would like to know where you purchased the hearts. The colors are so beautiful and are my favorites.
Hey Lauren! Love the key chain, it is beautiful. I was reading your post and you do have the most importants things in beading. That’s beading tools. It will depend what you will be making. For example: for braceletes you will need besides your tools ~ crimping beads, wire, lobters clasps, jump rings, spacers and beads. If you need more information, I will be happy to help you. Just send me an e-mail. Do you have a crimping tool? ~ if not, that is a must have.
Hugs,
Lauren,
I think you did a great job with the key chain. I have beaded in the past, but I like to stamp more. I do like blng so beading adds that. I am a girly girl so I love all things pretty and you sure do that!!
Love it love it… of course I love it… you made it and always do a beautiful job! I too love beads and am lovin reading all of these tips~ I would love to try a key chain~ you are an inspiration Lauren~
Love the keychain! Like you, I like various crafts and I just finished making a bracelet last week. I want to try working with Polymer Clay too, but some info I read about it got me freaked out a bit especially the part about not using your kitchen oven; I can’t remember exactly but it was something about the fumes. So I ended up returning all but two bars of clay I had bought. I still want to try it one day but only if I get a toaster oven. There is a great video on FiskarsTV by Lisa Pavelka-she makes a very cool polymer clay necklace. Also, check out this video youtube. If the link doesn’t work the channel is called NCWholesaleBeads and it’s how to make a beaded bracelet. http://www.youtube.com/user/NCWholesaleBeads#p/a/u/0/FAHrNkjfjfc Also, I highly recommend you go to google, do a search on TV Weekly. Then click on tvweekly.com and a screen will pop up with 4 options. Click on watch now Plum&Verdigris which is the channel all about jewelry. All the videos are great but check out the videos by Tamara Berg. She has some episodes on some of the basics; chain basics, wire basics, knotting basics, etc. And I really like the necklace in her episode Pretty in Pink. Hope this helps.
I couldn’t get online yesterday to get the SCAL program. I emailed them, and they emailed me back saying they were extending the coupon until 12est tonight Oct 16 !!!
Thanks again Lauren!
Pretty! I purchased a few templates today. A question on the gift card holder with the slot (the first one of the set, I think). I always assemble a “test” project first to see how it will go together. Well, if I put a gift card in the slot, it just falls down out the bottom, there’s nothing to keep it in. What am I doing wrong?!? Thanks.
JUDY: Did you just make a SLIT, with your hobby blade, as instructed in the photos/directions? Should be a VERY snug fit! No slipping through! I have all I can do to get my card in there! If you are concerned you can always make a belly band as I did on my post here http://laurenm.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2009/10/09/1-2009-holiday-tags-my-timeless-template-money-holders/
Again if you made just a slit (with the proper punched hole size) a gift card should not slip out
As for the TEST “copy” paper doesn’t hold like cardstock, so keep that in mind too 😀
I know this was not the color you were looking for, and I know you may not want to hear this (when I hate my hair I do not want to hear how much others like it because it does not matter because I have to live with it), but I think this color looks GORGEOUS on you! REALLY! It looks like cinnamon! It is the color that I hope to go to once I start getting grey (mine is a medium brown with lots of red and gold highlights from the sun). I have never died my hair before, so I am nervous. Your face looks somuch more luminous in the picture! Glad to hear that Alexa is doing better – YAAY!
Hi! Getting started beading can be time consuming. Here is a quick tutorial on making a basic necklace: http://www.softflexcompany.com/WSWrapper.jsp?mypage=Tips_Finish_FirstNecklace.html. Here are some free project ideas: http://www.softflexcompany.com/WSWrapper.jsp?mypage=Project.html.
Good Luck!
