Hi everyone 😀
Its Monday! Back to the REAL world.
Jay returned to work today, after his 5 week recovery. I can actually get some work done! LOL! Oh and I can actually get back to blogging more 😀
Seriously though I will miss having him home. It was a rude awakening when I was back to getting everyone together this morning. Note to self: Need X-LG coffee with TURBO Exspresso shot on Monday’s!
On a downer note we all woke up with cold’s this morning :C WOW! 3 WHOPPING days in a germ infested school and we all get sick! LOL! Maybe its the change in season? Who knows.
I decided after ALL my hard work playing mom and nurse, and having little to NO MY TIME, I am going to buy myself the Cricut Expression!!! I have been having creative withdrawls here, and NEED something FUN!
(Insert a vision a me doing a happy dance all over my house-especially since Jay didn’t FLINCH yesterday when I told him what I wanted-and he knows how much it costs! LOL! He said “Well I’m shocked you waited this long! (Maybe he just accepted defeat?))
As soon as Amber is off to school and I am off to the store 😀 I am very excited about this and simply cannot WAIT to give it a go! I really love all the Disney stuff they offer, along with the cool tags and things I have seen on cartridges.
SOOOOOOO, that being said, if you have a favorite cartridge you’d like to recommend to a total Cricut NEWBIE, OR any advice…….let me know! They are on SALE this week so I want to stock up! I deserve it 😀 I’m a little nervous I won’t be able to figure the CRAZY machine out. I’m quite techno challenged, and Jay already informed me he has NO interest in trying to deal with me while I get it figured out! So I HOPE it is user friendly (aka Lauren capable). People don’t really believe me when I tell them how techno challenged I am but TRUST ME, it is so true.
I also want the Sure Cuts Alot thingy but I have no real clue WHAT it is, HOW to use it or any of that fun stuff, so figured I’ll get the basics FIRST.
I am busy here gearing up for more FUN releases!
Pink Cat Studio had a NEW! icon for you-HERE! You don’t want to miss the details on HOW to WIN the NEW! Release to come!!
In the meantime I figured I’d share a sample I created using Papertrey Ink’s CHA set Floral Fusion (not available for purchase-sorry) and Birds of a Feather
I have to say I adore Red, Berry Sorbet, Kraft, Dark Chocolate and Sping Moss together!
This is a sweet and SIMPLE card, but I LOVE it.
The bird was lightly stamped using the lightest of the Tea Dye Ink Duo. I didn’t want the bird to be BOLD-just sitting on the branch, somewhere.
I just used my Labels nestability to get the purty main layer, and top cuts on my mat layers.
The little paper punched flower was perfect.
I love making Thank You cards because you can never have too many! I am however AWFUL at actually MAILING them :C I need to get better at that. It is something I forever vow to do, and yet it rarely gets better.
Just as the shoe makers family has no shoes, the card-makers family gets no cards!
There are NO excuses! I have many ways to keep organized, I just am not good with the follow through. I get lost in my own mind, and dive into some other task that needs my attention. Stampers ADD for sure.
Can you tell I have serious guilt over it too? Its just awful!
Well that is all for me today.
I have a fun post for tomorrow-its the 1st so we have our PTI Senior Design Team challenge! Don’t miss it 😀
Thanks for stopping by and ANY Cricut help you can offer is MUCH appreciated 😀

Expression is wonderful. You will love it. The are many Cricut videos on U-Tube that will help. The Cricut website community is great too. I love Storybook, Plantin Schoolbook, Home Decor and so many others. Good luck!
Great sample today!! Saw you got a cricut and just wanted to recommend the Storybook and Jasmin Cartridges. The Storybook cartridge has shapes that can be layered like a scalloped rectangle and regular rectangle. I just love the Jasmin font. Have fun figuring stuff out!!
Hi Lauren,
I love all those listed above, but I really like Tags, Bags, Boxes, & more!!
Go to You tube and check out videos by the Pink Stamper. She has great Cricut videos. Her website is My Pink Stamper. Have fun!!!!
Your card is beautiful and I love that color combo as well. I have had the Cricut electronic personal cutter (I think it’s the first on they made) for two years and have hardly used it at all because I haven’t MADE myself learn it. Maybe once you are a whiz at your new one you can share some of your knowledge.
A cricut, congrats to you! I LOVE my cricut! The cartridges that are my go to ones more often are: Plantin Schoolbook, Storybook, Home Decor, Hannah Montana, and Wild Card. Although I do love all of the ones I have (I have quite the stash…shhhh) those are my most used!
Lauren, You are going have to get the Design Studio software for the Cricut, it will enhance all you projects because you will be able to add several cartridges together to create a project. Then you will need the Juke Box also. With your talent I can hardly wait to see what you create!
As for cartridges, my new favorite is a Child’s Year. It is silhouettes of children doing different things, and I love the font on this cartridge! I also love the cartridges others have listed. Others I would add are Home Accent and Indie Art, these are both solution cartridges.
Enjoy your new toy!
Congrats on getting a Cricut Expression. I love mine. my favorite cartridges are Storybook, Home Decor, and Plantin Schoolbook. It is easy to operate. The videos on YouTube will be a big help, especially Robyn’s, The Pink Stamper.
I love your card and the color combo also. TFS
A wonderful card today! Have fun with your Cricut. I use the Sure Cuts A Lot software (be sure to check out the Yahoo group) and love it!! It can be intimidating at first, but if you can make videos for your blog, you can use SCAL. There are so many digi files availalbe, you’ll go loopy over the endless creative possibilities.
Lauren– Before you pay $399, or even $299 on sale for the Cricut Expression at a place like Michaels, check out http://www.Cricut-Xpress.com. The prices there are usually pretty good and I got mine within a week of ordering.
I love
Hello Kitty Greetings
Story Book
Paper Dolls
Sports Mania
And, so many others. It is hard to just pick a few.
Ohhhh, You’re gonna LOVE having your cricut… And I’m going to love You having one because I know you’re going to come up with some great projects I can copy 🙂 LOL
I actually just bought a 2nd expression last week… The PINK ONE!!! 🙂 , because I want one for my shop and I can’t bear to take mine from home.. and packing back and forth is just way to much trouble!
I have to say that my favorite font cart is Alphalicious. As for the others, it’s so hard to say which is my favorite.. I love them all!
Oh I’m sooo excited that you’re getting one and can’t wait til you post your projects.
Let me know if I can be of any help in your learning.
It’s really pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Kim
I am so excited to see what you are going to do with the cricut!!!! I have had mine for a little over a year and it is by far my absolute favorite, must have item for creating everything! I am a huge scrapbooker and gift maker, not so much a card maker, but I am always inspired by your cards to try one on my own.
My first plug is for the Design Studio. I use it for everything! I also love both paper dolls cartridges, and find that they are used more than any of my other cartridges, not so much for the “dolls” but all of the accessories that go with them. I have a few fonts – Alphalicious (girly), Cuttin Up (boyish) and Opposites Attract (fancy). I would also like to have the Lyrical Letters for the variety that it offers.
If you decide to get SCAL, just know that there is a major learning curve, especially if you aren’t really savvy on the computer. I have it and use it occasionally for fonts, but have found that for me, it’s 10 times easier to do it with Design Studio.
Hope this helps. You can check out my blog for photos of some of the wordbooks I have done. These make excellent gifts!
OHHHHH your gonna love your cricut! Not sure where your getting yours.. I got mine from walmart.com… over $100 less then anywhere else.. paid the overnight shipping.. still less.. and had it in a day.. as for cartridges.. how can I PICK! I LOVE all I have…
I ADORE for my girly stuff walk in my garden, the tags, bags, and boxes, mini monograms (this at the time was the only one that did a 12 X 12 scallop circle and square.. it may have changed now!) OHHH lifes a beach, and wild card.. geez I could go on and on… I have some FABULOUS font ones too.. now if only you were closer I would run them over for you to play with! 😉
Ebay has some FABULOUS deals on them.. if you like to buy from ebay!
and I LOVED the card… FABULOUS as always!
have a GREAT day.. happy cricut shoppen!
My plug is for SCAL. I agree with the learning curve, but I mostly use my cricut for basic shapes and fonts, and for fonts, SCAL can’t be beat. Plus, you can buy/get for free TONS of files to cut with SCAL, and, if you get really good, you can make your own! I only have three carts (George, which came with the cricut, and two disney carts), and I don’t miss not having more. SCAL is the way to go!
Kayla
[…] See the rest here: A Cricut and a Thank you […]
Enjoy your cricut… don’t use mine a lot, but wouldn’t give it up! And I totally feel you about the card thing. Its crazy but true (lol).
You will love the cricut… I love mine! I don’t use it all the time, but when I do I love it!! I have to say though that you really will have to try Sure Cuts a Lot. Seriously… HAVE to!! It has a learning curve but it is worth it. If you use it with Inkscape (which is kind of a pain in the butt too…lol) it has such great possibilities for you. Really… I do mean YOU. With the combination of the two you could cut all your amazing templates with your cricut. Now how cool would that be!! 🙂 If you do learn it can I BEG you to sell those files through Papertrey too… please!! 🙂 I have messed with Inkscape a little bit and actually started to convert one of your files on it, just to see if it worked. I am pretty sure it wouldn’t be too difficult to do. Really though… how much easier would it be to connect your computer to your cricut (instead of the printer) and then have your template all ready to go!! I know it makes me excited!! 🙂
This is beautiful, Lauren! I love everything about it ;o)
I ‘fought’ getting a Cricut for several years and checked out ebay and bought one. (Got it for a lower price than any place near me and with no tax or shipping.) Have had it about a week and just LOVE it! Like the other people have said – Can’t wait to see what projects you come up with using the Cricut. (Since you have girls, the Paper Doll cartridges would be fun to use. There are images for boys also.) From one Lauren to another – Have fun!!
You are going to love your Cricut E! I cannot wait to see what you do with it! I have several Disney carts and while they are great, they are very detailed and a little tricky to start with. My other fave carts are:
Paper Doll Dress Up (new cart is Everyday Paper Dolls and it also looks GREAT!)
Stretch Your Imagination is great because it has something for all seasons AND makes cards.
Favorite fonts are Storybook and Opposites Attract
Have fun…and use cheap paper first to get your feet wet!
I bought my Cricut from hsn.com got a smokin’ deal, free shipping (it came quick!), and it had tons of stuff. 4 carts, the colored pens, everything I need to start playing as soon as I opened the box. It is EASY to use, I promise. The video it comes with is cheesy, but you should watch it! I love Home Accents & Home Decor (which I bought for 19.99 & 20% off from ohmycrafts.com). They have really cool flourish images and nice words. I’m going to buy some vinyl and make word art for my new scraproom. Don’t forget they sell a stamp kit! so you can make your own clear stamps.
You are going to love the Cricut!! I had the original Cricut and then I bought the Expression! You definitely have to get the Mickey cartridges and, at least, the Pooh font which has a couple of fonts plus some characters. I also love Tags, Bags and More, Paper Dolls, and the Hello Kitty shape cartridge and font cartridge. Can’t wait to see and share Cricut creations with you! Love you and your beautiful spirit and your beautiful family and beautiful creations!
You should check out http://www.mypinkstamper.com Robin’s blog has taught me so much about the machine…what all the features are and how to use it. You will be addicted for sure!
Hi Lauren –
Have the Expression and LOVE it! You will have no problems figuring it out – it’s really quite easy. I also have the Design Studio (software that you can hook up your Cricut to your PC) and it’s great for adding additional functionality, like welding (connecting) letters & words. Lacks some basic stuff, but I do like it alot and you can view and play with other cartridges you don’t have (you just can’t cut without the actual cartridge). I have played with a demo copy of SCAL and it’s pretty cool. I hope to get the real version someday. Would love to share anything I’ve learned so feel free to send an email. Good luck and have fun!
Oh, P.S. check out http://www.ohmycrafts.com for AWESOME prices on Cricut cartridges, you can save a bundle. Sign up for their email updates (daily) for additional sales and COUPON CODES!
Oh my gosh – you can totally handle the Cricut – it’s very easy! And the tutorial dvd is very helpful. I love mine! I use it primarily when I scrapbook so the fonts are my favs. I do use Walk in My Garden and Doodlecharms a lot – so take a look at those. I want the SCAL thingy also but haven’t taken that plunge yet -I’m afraid that might be more than I can handle LOL!
Vicki
You will love it!!! and won’t regret it for a second!!!!
get SCAL!!!!! you can cut every font and with the new version you can trace images and cut them too!!!
have any questions feel free to ask, I have a few projects on my blog.
http://buttonsbowsandmore.blogspot.com/
did you have to drive Jay to work? i remember doing that for a month because DH couldn’t drive yet, and I would go get him for lunch too because he couldn’t do a whole day without a break! with 3 little kids, it was no fun!
hope you feel better!
Don’t buy DESIGN STUDIO !!!!! You can use the trial Design
Studio…SCAL is more the money and you can do wonders
with the newest version……
I don’t have a cricut yet, but love all I’ve learned so far. There is a great blog done by Susan Komen Race, The Pink Stamper (http://www.mypinkstamper.com/). She has many, many videos showing how to use the cricut, and projects using the cricut. I hope you and your fans find this helpful.
Hi Lauren
had to take the time to leave you a message to say how inspring I’m finding your blog!
I followed a link from another blog and kind of got lost here and never returned! I absolutley adore your timeless templates and was thrilled to see they are available to buy and download (I’m an impatient soul and live in the UK!).
So on Saturday I popped over to PTI, bought a template, returned here and followed your fab tutorial to make use of old tissue paper and created the most stunning gift box I’ve ever made.
Thanks for the inspiration, I will be visiting a lot more and no doubt spending more money on templates too

Ahhh pretty lady- if you don’t have a cricut already (and may I say WHAT?) lol- here’s some great cartridge ideas:
Lyrical Letters- it has 4-6 fonts (ish- I haven’t used them all) AND some sayings with different backgrounds for holidays and such- too cool
Storybook- my favourite! It has scalloped shapes, beautiful borders and backgrounds to cut for cards and scrapbooks, crowns (I KNOW!) and a couple of pretty fonts in full alphabet as well as some cute sayings.
Zooballo is awesome too, as is New Arrival, I use that one quite a bit- I love the bits of extras you get other than basic alphabet. So yea – if you already had a regular cricut (that’s all I have- waiting for the create) then I sound like a doof 😛 BUT if not- trust me- these cartridges are MUST HAVES! Wait til michaels has a sale again ($50 CND up here /cartridge) and then you can get them all at once! lol- have fun with your new toy and happy crafting 😀 OH! And I have stalked their website- they have kits so you can turn any of their images into acrylic stamps or embossing folders- sigh- I love cricut <3 anyways- have fun!
You will love your Cricut! I use mine for cards, scrapbooking & holiday decorations. My favorite cartridges are Storybook, Lyrical Letters, Life Is A Beach & Paper Dolls. Oh, I also love A Child’s Year!! I can’t wait to see what you make with it. For some great ideas check out the Capadia Designs blog.
Hi Lauren – I hope you and your family feel better soon!
Congrats on your new toy! The best deal I ever got on cartridges was $29.95 each from http://www.cricutmachine.com, http://www.customcrops.com also has good deals from time to time. Enjoy!!
~Meredith
Lauren, I hope you get this before you buy your cricut. Of course if you want the new pink one you have to go to Michaels. If not, check out hsn.com. They have the best deals on bundles I have ever seen. You get a lot of stuff, including quite a few cartridges. You will love it. It is very easy to use. You can do it!!!! Good luck. Sandy
I love the Hello Kitty Greetings card! Definitely check out http://www.mypinkstamper.com for some great video tutorials on the cricut. Also SCAL is a MUST HAVE! Lets you cut all of your fonts on your computer. And if you use Inkscape, it is easy to figure out how to turn your pdf templates into a cut file and cut it on the cricut. That is how I cut all of the Timeless Templates I have purchased. There are some great Inkscape tutorials at http://pennyduncancreations.blogspot.com/ that would help. I think it would be awesome if PTI sold the cut file with the template but honestly, it only takes a few minutes to convert to a cut file.
Hope you enjoy your new toy!
Hi Lauren, this is a fabulous card and like you I am the worst at actually mailing anything just once now and then and other important stuff takes presidence.
So wanted to mention I purchased a couple of your wonderful templates and here’s a link to a couple of creations, Thank sweetie they’re fantastic!!! HuGs Kim 🙂
you have to get the wild card cartridge it full of great ideas…
Congrats on your new expression! My always “Go to” cartridge is the “Paper Dolls” cartridge. If you can only get one, I’d get this one because there is sooooo many cute die cuts in this one! you can check out my website & see everything I’ve made w/the paper doll cartridge! BTW, sure cuts a lot is a must have!! because you do not necessarily need any cricut font cartridges because w/sure cuts a lot you can download thousands of fonts for FREEE!!! & also you can cut out any fonts you already have in your computer program!!!! YAAA WHooo, I am so happy for You!!
I LOVE my cricut the disney ones are my favorite. Although I didn’t care to much for the tinkerbell one.
I’ll reiterate what’s already been said..you’re gonna love it, lots of help on youtube and the cricut website forum is awesome…the hardest part…just putting it together…and honestly…not that hard…just follow the little booklet…it’s super easy…hey remember you figured out how to video and put it ONLINE…you can do this…you’d be surprised… I can’t WAIT to see what you come up with…have fun Lauren, you certainly deserve this!
With your design talent you are gonna love the E!!!! Get scal-you will be able to do amazing things with it. You will be able to design all your templates with it so your e can cut them. I’d be happy to help you with questions about scal. Have fun!!!!
Good for you, Lauren!! Enjoy your well-earned treat! Can’t wait to see what you make with it!
You’re gonna love your new bug. I’ve been a cricut user since the original, going on 4 years now. I’m not a fan of SCAL, even though I’m super savy on computers and vector graphics. It’s one serious pain in the fanny. Of course, I’ve got a good selection of Cricut cartridges and super happy with those, so I’ve never found a need to invest in SCAL. Favorite all time cart is Alphalicious.
I seriously do not use my bug without the Design Studio software. I’ve got two littles (toddler & preschool) and the Design Studio lets me work without stringing out the bug until I’m good and ready. Plus, it lets me maximize my paper, weld my titles, add shadows, do all sorts of fun stuff, not to mention being super easy to use.
I recommend Ohmycrafts.com for your cartridge purchases, they are so much cheaper on there and that is my go-to source for all of mine.
Oh you are going to love your new toy! My favorite cartridge is the Accent Essentials so far & I have found the best price to purchase cartridges is at ohmycrafts.com Can’t wait to see what you create!
It’s been 5 weeks since Jay had his surgery? It sure doesn’t seem that long ago! Time surely flies!
I could not handle one more crafty gadget in my house right now! I’m in the process (in my head) of reorganizing my craft room because I just want to scream with the disorganization and ALL THE STAMPS!!! LOL!! But I am thinking about the copic air brush system…how crazy is that? Shoot me now!
Love your card! Get well, too!
Lisa
Hi Lauren from Australia…like everyone so happy to hear you have a cricut expression……WOW so shocked you don’t already own one!! I bought a “baby” cricut several years ago and upgrade quickly to the expression…even as a card maker it is fantastic. I even shipped mine from the USA as they were $900 here! Oh yes I have played around with your templates on Sure Cuts A Lot too and many other things, but I too say get used to the cricut and Design Studio first – SCAL makes your cricut similar to those other cutters that NEED a computer to work and just a bit more complicated. Here’s to your new “baby”
So glad Jay is able to go back to work!
I haven’t had the Cricut very long. Mine came with 2 cartridges and I haven’t bought more yet. I need to get my office organized so it is more readily available. So far I’ve mostly used it to cut out letters, flowers, leaves and other symbols. With your creativity, I can’t wait to see what you do with it. I’ve also watched a lot of the YouTube videos on Cricut to get some great ideas.
After a lot of research, I too bought a Cricut Expression a little while ago…my latest blog post will have a few things about it that I think will help you. I have found a woman who has videos about the SCAL software and she is awesome…I have the link to her videos on my last blog post as well.
I am excited you got this machine because since you create amazing templates, I am hoping that once you get the hang of the SCAL program, we will be getting your templates for the cricut? But maybe this will only be just a dream of mine.
Peace & Blessings,
Laura

Congrats on your new ‘baby’! Don’t have one but get to play a bit at my friend’s house… bast wishes …hugs from Michigan
Get Sure Cuts A Lot!
You could turn your timeless templates into cutfiles! The best thing is you could vary the size of the project, you would not be locked into 8.5×11 paper from your printer!
Check out ‘Crafty Dan’ he has several cutfiles on his website that remind me of your files!
http://dan99.blogspot.com/2009/08/freebie-35.html
Great stuff. Sorry to hear you guys have colds I hope it’s not too bad. I’m very afraid because my little guys start preschool next week and lord knows what that will bring, esp since they have never been around alot of kids much.
Good luck with the Cricut! I debated getting one not long ago when they were on sale but then thought it would be a waste for me. I have the slice and never used it! I also don’t have space to put it, I bend over to the floor to crank my cuttlebug! LOLOL! Let us know how it goes.
I love my Cricut Expression I have DS instead of SCAL, if you are tech challenged I would start with DS the program that is made to work with the cricut. With scal you infact need to learn two more programs.
There are two cricut chatter thread over on SCS you should bookmark them.
Have fun;)
If you haven’t already purchased your Cricut take a look at a Klic-n-Kut. If you can create it on the internet, you can cut it with the KnK. I even cut your templates on my KnK and it makes it SOOOO easy!!!

http://www.iloveknk.com
I don’t make any money from suggesting this, just that if you have this machine you might begin to create design files with it that the rest of us could purchase. 🙂
you will not be sorry that you purchased a cricut expression. It is the best. I dont use my too the fullest but even just using the basics it is amazing. You would love the all dressed up cartridge. The images on the back dont do it justice. When you open it up it has the ppeople shape as well as all different outfits and it has all the props to go with it. So the western outfit also has a horse etc. Totally recommend it especially cause you have children. I have made some cute birthday invitations and halloween treat decor. with this one. I know you could do some amazing things with this. enjoy your new toy
One more link for you to help with your decision. You may have already checked this out but thought I’d pass it on, just in case you haven’t seen it.

Good for you, taking the Cricut plunge! I couldn’t live without mine, endless creating capabilities! You will love it! I hope you share some of your ideas…you are so talented!
Lynne
Oh Lauren… you will wonder what you ever did without the Cricut Expression. Be sure to check out http://www.hallmarkscrapbook.com. They have great prices and bundles.
I went crazy with mine when I got in for Christmas 2008. You’ll have to look at my blog and go back to the beginning and see how crazy I was. I also made a cute Christmas bouquet for one of my first projects.
You’ll be a wiz at the Cricut. It’s got to be easier than making videos.
You go girl! I agree with all the suggestions for cartridges. You can’t go wrong. You’ll love it!
Have fun and hurry up and get it so we can hear how you like it!
Take care… get well soon!
Debbie
Lauren, don’t know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but WalMart has fab prices on Cricut everything. Get the little tool kit… it’s the one thing I couldn’t do without!
Lauren,
believe me when I tell you YOU will love, love, love your new Cricut!!!!! ( I have both) heehee
Some of my favorite carts are Alphalicious, Storybook, Hello Kitty font, Wild Card, Mickey and Friends, and of course Paper Doll Dress Up.
Have fun with your new toy!
You’re going to love your Cricut, and I think you should really look more into SCAL. You can cut any font on your computer, plus you’re creative enough that you’ll be coming up with your own designs in no time flat. Assuming, of course, that you’re already using software like Illustrator to create your templates.
What would be totally awesomely cool is if your Timeless Templates came in a digital cutting format. (Shelly above already made this suggestion, but I’m just reiterating it.) I could turn your template into an SVG, but it would be so convenient if it was already in that format so I could just pop it into SCAL (and make it any size I want) and cut it out! I don’t know if you’ll consider that, but it would be super cool.
Have fun getting to know your Cricut! As others have said, You Tube is a great place to watch videos, and if you venture into either Design Studio or SCAL, there are videos about that as well. Enjoy!

Hi Lauren!!
I was just checking out your blog like I do quite often and saw this post.
**WHAT?????**
I cannot believe that you didn’t already own a Cricut. LOL!! You are going to LOVE it!!
Thank you everyone who shared my link above. Yes, I have over 100 tutorial Cricut videos on my website that will help you get started. I also just released a Cricut DVD on Monday that is great for beginners, too.
Lauren, please let me know if I can help you in any way with your Cricut!!
Robyn
I have no doubt that you will enjoy the enhanced capabilities that the Cricut machine offers. Be sure not to overlook the other projects you are able to perform like glass etching, quilting, vinyl letter and shapoe cutouts for home decor, and the list goes on…
