OK I have a dilemma, and need your help!
To thank you for helping me I will randomly draw a winner on Friday, from the list of people who comment on this post.
First we will talk about the free goody.
I made this carrot out of Bazzil card-stock. I got the template at Target! How cool huh?
Anyway Christine from All That Scraps designed this cute little duck on the tag called “bunny ears”. Her designs are called C.C. Designs-and are super cute! Since I’m in LOVE with her new stamp I figured I would give one away! So the lucky winner will get this stamp (mounted on e-z mount) inside my cute little carrot holder.
You an see her stamps on her website @ www.allthatscraps.com
So here is my dilemma.
OK so I have started this blog. Now I am torn about what to do about uploading my creations. This is where you, and your opinions come in. BRUTAL HONESTY OK.
I think the point of my blog is to not only share, but teach, and have fun with what I do. I can obviously share more on here about my creations than anywhere else. As well as life in general , but plan on sticking to the stamping thing mostly.
That being said, should I keep SOMEof my creations EXCLUSIVE to my blog. Meaning I will not upload them on SCS.
OR post them in both places?
Now I will definitely continue to post regularly on SCS no matter what, but I guess I figure why check my blog if you can see my stuff in my SCS gallery, and visa versa. Does that make sense?
What is the point of uploading in two places for everything? How does that keep it interesting. Lately I have been like
“for more creative info check my blog”
and Im not crazy about doing that. I still fill in the recipe and give a general commentary on my creations. I hat when people give NO recipe and then direct you to their blog. I dont know why I just do. Plus I think the rules are you need to give some recipe.
Do you think uploading in both is good? Cause if you missed it here you may see it there?
Alright-now I’m turning the mike over to you-my pretend stamping friends! LOL!
To post on both or be exclusive. Any and all opinions appreciated.

I’ve been uploading my stuff in all kinds of places (how many online galleries do I have now???) ROFL!!! But I hear you – I want to start having some things just on my SCS gallery, some just on my blog etc etc etc. It’s all a matter of personal preference I guess!! And I don’t mind the link to “visit blog for more info” as long as (like you said) the recipe info is filled in. I can’t see it being to difficult for you to keep more things “exclusive” on here and your gallery etc as you always come up with TONS of fab designs!!!! 😉 😀
I do a little of both – some things just go on the blog and some on my SCS gallery and the blog, there are times when I post something on SCS but not on the blog and I still direct them to the blog for more ideas, but not necessarily that particular creation. I get what you’re saying, why put both in both locations…what’s the incentive for someone to look at both if the info. is the same. I think the blog gives opportunity to elaborate on the process where on SCS you might choose to be brief, KWIM? Either way, I’ll be checking your blog, and look forward the the lovely creations for the DD gallery each month! Sorry, not much help on the decision, but I think you have to do what you have time for – we’ll come look regardless!
I do think that people have, as of late, divided them into a couple of groups…those who blog and surf blogs and those who stick with SCS and post exclusively there. For me, I need validation where ever I can find it…ha!
I like the idea of having more on your blog. Recently I posted a single picture of a project on SCS, but on my blog I was able to post several close up shots without clogging up the SCS gallery. I think that is another good way to break it down.
For me, my blog is a place to chat about my projects and provide more detailed directions than I care to on SCS. So this usually means more detailed descriptions and more pictures than I would post there. I haven’t started doing blog exclusive projects yet, but I am leaning in that direction.
I am an idea surfer. I started with going through the gallery until I saw something I liked. I would personally like to showcase my own work, but if anyone is searching for ideas, the recipe is the key.
I ended up subscribing to your blog because your work caught my interest while surfing.
I like when I go to a blog and find a card or project that I haven’t seen on SCS… I am an avid gallery surfer… look at new additions several times a day… so at night when I visit blogs, I see a lot of what I have already seen… so for me I would like to see some different things on your blog….
I am a non-blogger, I don’t have time to stamp, look, type(slow slow slow) etc.(I have a crazy life ).. so for someone like me I have a dozen or so blogs I love to read (I am so addicted) every other day or so,( before the sunrises or late into the night), but when I need to stamp and want to see what everyone has been doing I go to the recent posts of SCS. (easy to do at break or lunch,, even breakfast) I think there are a lot of “me’s” out there that don’t have time to do all the blogs and would sorely miss your art (and lots of others) if it wasn’t on SCS. You all are so amazing at what you fit into your days!.
Linda
(you guys made me ink)
Hi Lauren –
I do not have a blog, so here goes. I like the original work on the blogs, so I won’t see what I already saw elsewhere. On the otherhand, with so many people uploading on SCS, do you ever see it all?! Unless you’re checking specific galleries (which I do) how to keep up?
I know that doesn’t really help, just some thoughts. . .
Take care! Thank you.
Lauren…I’m fine if you post all your work in both places, or have some exclusive work to your blog only (I think this would be a great way to reward faithful blog readers). I’ll find your beautiful work either way!
Linda
Hi Lauren:
Not having a blog myself, I find it’s good to have posts both on SCS as well as the blogs. Your descriptions of your uploads can be minimal with direction to your blog for further details! I think your blog site would be known to more people if when you uploaded to SC you also made your blog site address available on your post. I have discovered so many wonderful blog this way. I know it’s more work on your part, but I believe it is a good way for others to discover your blog.:) Does that make sense? I’m love splitcoast and I love the blogs! So many talented people are creating blogs and sharing their wonderful talents! Thanks for sharing :)!
Dorothy
Hi! I’m new to blogging, so I don’t know what SCS is. But I would say that it would be great to have items posted here. I like that you want to teach techniques on your blog too. That’s what I’m always looking for. Thanks for offering the candy!
Cheryl
I think you should do whatever you want as its your creations and you have to manage your time.
I find there is so much stuff at the SCS gallery that when I go to those gallery I’m looking to do a specific technique or project or use of a certain set though I do go through the DD galleries with a fine tooth comb. I like reading blogs and seeing everyone current stuff as reading and seeing on a blog lets me get to know the person a bit more than their scs gallery.
Just my 2 maybe 3 cents.
I think you should keep some things for your blog and some things for your SCS gallery. I will check it out both places anyways! I love your work.
Frankly, I get a little lost in the SCS galleries. I have several blogs bookmarked, and I go to those almost daily to see what’s new. I agree that you could post more detail on your blog. So it would probably be good to separate the two…some for SCS and some just for here.
I think you should share it in both spots because, like you said, if I missed it there I’ll see it here and vice versa. And I think it’s OK to post a recipe and some directions and to leave a ‘if you want more details or step by step pics, click here for my blog”. You give the reader a choice this way and it’s their choice to check out the blog or not. I was going to say something else…can’t recall! Ack! Hehehe.
Oh, and are you able to share that carrot template? =D
Thanks for asking our feedback!
I love your blog and have put you in my favorites to check regularly. As far as posting your cards and other items…I think it would be nice to have some things exclusive to your blog. I tend to check blogs more than indivdual galleries, but that is just my opinion. By the way, when I found out you were among the Dirty Dozen on SCS…I finally joined the SCS Fan Club. Too long I know, but you pushed me over the edge and now I wonder why I didn’t do it sooner. Thanks for sharing your creativity and inspiring us all.
Have a great day!
Jennie H.
I like it when you have exclusive stuff on your blogs. I love SCS but I haven’t visited it as much since I’ve started checking out some of these blogs.
Lauren,
For what its worth, here are my thoughts. I absoultely LOVE SCS, but sometimes I too get a little lost or bogged down. I really like being able to go to someone’s blog and see their creation, look at the recipe, and hear about their inspiration behind the creation. This all really helps me to “think outside the box” when it comes to my own creations and I can’t tell you how much I apprecite the technique teaching! I also think you should do whatever is easiest for you. You may not mind posting in both places. On the other hand, posting in both places might take up more time than you have. I don’t see a problem with directing folks to either your blog or to your SCS gallery to see more of your creations and/or info on your creations. These are your personal creations and we are priviledged that you allow us to see them. Thanks so much for sharing! Laura
I love it when I visit a blog and see a project for the first time. I spend most of my time looking at blogs lately. I love the fact that there is way more information on the blog then on SCS. Keep posting here!
Oh! Now I remembered what I wanted to say. When you leave a link to your blog, just make sure it’s to the specific blog entry. If I were to check out your card months from now, I’d have to hunt down the appropriate entry, which can be frustrating sometimes. To link to the specific blog entry, just click on your entry’s title (or Permalink for those using other blog hosts). =)
Hope you continue to share in both spots! =)
I think it would be cool to have “exclusive” blog cards. I check the SCS galleries periodically but truthfully, I read blogs more, it seems. I have yours bookmarked, so I would probably see your stuff more on your blog than on SCS.
I also think it’s fun to get to know the blogger as a person – and anything you share about your life is a bonus, as far as I’m concerned. 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration!
Since I don’t have a blog or post to SCS although I do go there every few days I don’t know how much help I would be. But, if not for Allison’s posting I might not have found your blog. SCS is a good place to quickly look for ideas and if someone has their blog link in their signature I will generally click on it. I think you would be able to have more detailed postings here than SCS (I don’t know what their restrictions are) and that is a good thing. I enjoy looking at the cards and projects there and don’t mind one bit if someone posts “for more info check my blog”.
This is a good question! I have been asking myself the same question. Here is my take on it at the moment….hope it helps you:) I am on who will put a blurb like you said- for more creative info see my blog….and here is why. I always include the recipie on scs. My blog is somewhere that a person could go and read the whole story about a project….why I made it, who it was for, etc…..a little more personal look into the project. I think that my scs gallery is sharing the idea and what it took to make it …. and my blog is a more personal look into my crafting life. So, for now, I will probably share the same things on both. I think. I think if we don’t do that —-then some one (whether it be blog reader or scs reader) might be missing out somewhere. Maybe I might put a more elaborate picture or more pictures of a project on my blog (again maybe) but will share all projects on both for the time being. Well, that’s my 2 cents ( or 2000…lol) Hope it helped you a little:) Oh and…….love you’re work!!
I, for one, don’t always see a lot of things that get posted on SCS and I don’t have time to go through 20 pages of the new additions every day to keep updated! 🙂 So, I would LOVE for you to post in both places, but I can understand if it’s a hassle. I also think when you post things on your blog, you can add more “personal” info than you can on SCS, meaning just like your post today. You may not have posted on SCS where you got the carrot template and who makes the stamp, etc. Know what I mean? Anyway, I vote for both places! 🙂
I know you’ll figure out the right thing for you…I always check both places anyway, so at least I know I’m covered! 🙂 Like someone mentioned before, I could see how if you want to continue posting in both places, your blog could be more descriptive, and in more depth of what you did, the SCS gallery will get the ‘cliff’s notes’ version KWIM?
And I can also see how you might want to ‘reward’ your blog readers with some extra special mytime eye-candy with a fabulous creation or two, only for those who take the time to come and read…hope you find what works best for you 🙂
The carrot is WAY cute, BTW – another stamp to add to my list 😉 Thanks Lauren…
I notice sometimes when surfing through SCS galleries that the poster will post their photo, the recipe and then add for more details go to my blog. Usually I will follow the link if I am interested in seeing more details. I don’t mind doing that either. I guess you could add something like for step by step instructions or a tutorial go to my blog. I think since it’s your blog and your gallery that you should feel free to post whatever you chose to wherever you chose. I don’t have a problem with seeing the same card twice in a day. I find now with all the wonderful blogs out there that I don’t go to SCS as often as I use to. There just aren’t enough hours in the day. My google reader makes life easier by updating daily whenever someone has added to their blog so I don’t have to search.
By the way, I love your carrot and the stamp is too cute.
Cute carrot!!!
I don’t have a blog myself. I don’t have the time to keep one up on a regular basis…probably because I spend so much time looking at other wonderful blogs (including yours!). I also regularly check out SCS for inspiration. I personally don’t mind if someone gives the basic info on SCS with a link to their blog with more detailed info. I really appreciate the opportunity to have the extra details and perhaps pictures as well. I do agree that if you post to SCS it really is helpful to have the basic recipe and not just the link to a blog.
The only problem for someone like me with blog only creations is that it may be hard for me to find later as a subscribe to way too many blogs. At least with SCS I can look for a particular set, technique etc.
Just my $.02
Thanks!!
Heather L.
Lauren,
I don’t usually upload my creations to both places unless they are for a challenge on SCS. I do try to make my blog stuff kinda exclusive. I want people to check out my blog on a regular basis. Do what your instincts tell you to do!
Smiles, Debbie
Hi Lauren,
I have both a blog and a SCS gallery. I use my blog for some of the more complex projects as incentive to my stamp camp group to review. I don’t get much traffic to my site at all (which is rather sad, I know). But, I like to have something for them to view other than my gallery for ideas.
I hope this helps!
Lisa a.k.a Silvergirl
I just started putting my creations on SCS, I just love getting to look at all the beautiful creations from everyone else. With this said, I find it too much when I get to the card and there is a small novel on how the card came into being. This is fine and dandy on most days, but I feel it is a little too much for me.
My opinion for you, is that, if I had a blog, I would like to keep my special projects for a place like my blog and then keep the weekly challenges for SCS. This to me would give you the best of both worlds at the same time and less time putting your cards on both sites. I love what you do and there are some of your cards that makes me want to say, WOW!!, how did she pull that one off. I would love to see your creations on both, but the tutorial cards would do much better on your blog.
Hopefully this is not too confusing. Thanks for listening.
I hope this works for you
Laura a.k.a. littleooura
I say keep some exclusive to your blog. I have been spending WAY MORE time on blogs than in the SCS gallery!
I don,t have a blog yet I do visit alot of them.I also visit splitcoaststampers almost every time I,m looking for an idea.So I say post some in both places for if I was to see something I liked there I would view your blog to get more ideas.Hope that makes sense.
I know it is a lot of work to post on both spots but I think your blog is special and could use special stuff. This is where you can teach us and show us stuff that you can’t on SCS. I appreicate your blog and if it means staying with it (feels more personal to me) then don’t upload as much on SCS. That’s my opinion. Thanks for hearing me.
Cheryl
If I had a blog, which I don’t, I think that I would post in both places. At SCS though, I would direct poeple to your blog for info on your project. That way, you will get new people to your blog in search of info on your amazing projects. If people are going to the blog, they may head over to SCS to view your gallery to favorite them, and so they will probably be doing both. At least I know that’s what I do. Personally, I enjoy blogs for the info and ideas just as much as I enjoy reading about other ramblings. I hope this helps. Love the carrot! Super cute idea!
I would check both places for things. I have just started looking at people’s blogs and really enjoy the instructions for their creations!! Your stuff is awesome!!
I like the idea of there being exclusive projects on your blog. I’ve turned into a blog-a-holic and I follow several blogs on a daily basis. I discovered your blog through one of those blogs, and then looked for your posts on SCS. I’ve been a fan club member of SCS for almost two years. I initially discovered some of my favorite blogs through the links on the posts at SCS. Long story short….I love what everyone has posted and I want to learn more. I like the extra info on the blogs explaining how an idea came to be and how to put together projects that are posted. Plus, there is sooo much posted daily at SCS that it’s nearly impossible to keep up with it all. It’s nice to look for the latest posts through blogs.
I am so new to both scs and the blog thingy… but i LOVE the idea of seeing it on scs and then being able to go to the blog and getting more from it cause some people who put it oin scs dont alwya list everything and for us newbies who are looking for ideas and new things to try I love scs and i like only a few bloggers yours being one of them…. YOU TEACH US. YOU HELP US KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE THINGS YOU MAKE > Mine my not look as beautiful as yours or others but I love the WAY YOU HELP TEACH ME!!!!!.. so i like the fact that you post in both but if i want to klnow more about it i know i can come you to your blog to learn more..
does that make sense to you????
thank you again for your hard work and help teach me new things
Belle
Personally I don’t go looking through the SCS site for specific people’s creations, I am looking for a particular project or stamp set. In looking at the blogs, I am looking for a specific person’s creation. Does this make sense? It’s nice to be able to see the idea on SCS and if needed go to the blog for more info. Either way you do, we’ll still be happy with your creations!
I like the idea of some things being exclusive to your blog as well. But, I check both your blog and your gallery regularly.
Thanks for appreciating our input. I for sure think that you should have many of your creations only on your blog – keeps the blog special. This is such a fun, happy blog to visit.
I personally think while you are working on building your stamping career, the more places people can see your work the better.
I don’t get a chance to browse the SCS gallery everyday, and I don’t always have time to check my favorite blogs…yet I hate to miss anything. As long as it isn’t too time consuming for you…then I would post in both.
I’d love for you to post on both, we all love inspiration and your doing such a beautiful job.
Claudia F.
I don’t blog because I just don’t have time. But, I do surf several times a day spending most of my time at SCS. It seems the more polished projects are often found on the blogs though. Probably because those with blogs are often the ones with art degrees, or are published artist.
By keeping projects exclusive on your blog it becomes more a personal sharing experience for those looking at your blog, and with the explainations of the card it gives one more of a feel for that artists way of thinking when she was making that project.
I dislike the “see my blog for details.” Since I’m already at the SCS site give me the recipe as I may not have time to go to the blog as well. Although I think it’s great to link the blog to your signature line or other way to the posting.
I love the tutorials on the blogs because they are more detailed and have pictures. I like to see even basic stuff that one would think an experienced stamper had already done detailed out on a blog. Some times it just reminds me of something I had once known and forgotten.
Your cards are an inspiration to many including myself. I appreciate your talent and the time it takes you to share your work with us.
I think that you should put it in both places with the link to view more info check it out on the blog. Unless people are subscribers they may not know about your blog and will come check out all of your awesome stuff here and get your great tutorials!!
I appreciate when there are things on a blog that are not on SCS. I think it is an extra reward for
being faithful to someone’s blog. You get to see a little more than others who do frequent your blog.
I personally think you should keep some creations just for your blog so people can get that extra bonus for being readers. I just found your blog and I LOVE it. I’d like to see some extra things! 🙂
I think you should do whatever makes you happy…if you feel like posting in both areas, go ahead! If not, then keep it exclusive to your blog. I learned from my MIL that you need to make yourself happy…the rest will follow.
Good luck.
I totally agree with you…I think it is a great idea to post everything to your blog and leave some off of SCS….like you said, they can see “more creative ideas” at your blog! Entice and hook ’em, then they can come here! 🙂 LOVIN’ the carrot…..couldn’t be any cuter!
I would vote both places but I’m not sure why. I think it’s because sometimes I just don’t have the time to do blogs (because inevitably I end up reading *everything* an the 15 minutes I had turns into 2 or 3 hours and I haven’t done anything but look at blogs!). I like to go to your gallery and see what you’ve been up to and be able to do it fairly quickly. When I do have more time I *love* all the details your blog would give… Does that make sense? 🙂
I think the answer is what works best for you. It seems like a lot of work to duplicate uploading pictures in multiple places. I personally visit the blogs because they seem more personal and give more detail in technique, materials and the making of the card. As a rookie stamper, I appreciate that. I do go to SCS, but more for the discussion board than the gallery. I do look at the SU gallery to see what the retired stamp sets look like, but I don’t look at personal galleries. Probably because as a new stamper, there are so many techniques for me to practice that the gallery is too overwhelming. I just like the blogs better somehow. The carrot and bunny stamp are very cute! I agree, Christine has some cute stamps.
Hi Lauren! I love your SCS gallery & actually look at your new work on there. So my opinion is that I would like to see something different here!!! Congrats on becoming a “dirty girl”
Well Lauren, since I have saved links to both of you places you post where ever you want I’ll be sure to see them!! Seriusly though, although I don’t have a blog or gallery, seems most so a little of both, some post on the bloggs first and then on scs a little later, I think that’s a good way, that way those visiting you site or get web updates see your things first. HTH. Just don’t stop what you’re doing!!!
TFS!!! Vicky
There is soooo much at SCS, that I don’t browse that gallery like I used to (I have kids, so I don’t have the time…though I’d love to). I have been doing more blog reading these days, and I love getting more of a story behind the card.
I think it’s great to upload at both places, keeping some on your blog only will definitely keep us checking in for exclusive blog entries.
Good question Lauren! I have been posting to both, but lately sometimes waiting until the next day to post it on SCS. I think if someone sees it on SCS they may click through to your blog to see what other great projects you’ve done – at least that’s what I do when I find a new link. I think anyone that knows your work, will still visit both – I certainly will!
I hate it when no recipe is given at SCS or on Yahoo groups, and instead we are referred to a blog. I think that it’s a small extra step to take but worth it to have the recipe included. I think that people would like to see your creations in both places because I’m sure you’ll go into deeper detail on your blog and we’ll also get the added benefit of hearing about your life and family. I have to admit that I’m a complete lurker on your SCS thread but have sent many prayers and thoughts for you.
My personal opinion is to post in BOTH places. I am doing a lot more blogging these days than looking on Splitcoast. You see your favorite designers work more often that way! TFS
I say if you have enough creations to go around, then put some here and some there. Why do double the work for yourself? Getting here is only a click away in your signature on SCS, anyway, so people could come here to check out what you are up to if they want. It’s not like it’s *criminal* for them not to see every item you’ve ever made. (Sad, because they would miss some, perhaps, but not you being mean or anthing, is what I’m trying to say!)
Well, if it were me, I’d have them in both places and cross reference them.
Actually, I never go to the SCS site, only your blog. I feel I have a one-on-one with you here. You could refer to your gallery on the SCS if you feel you only want to highlight a few here and post all of them at SCS. I could manage to go over there to see them if they were for public viewing, but…sniff…sniff…I would hate to miss see one. I love them all.
Lauren, I would say upload to both; but keep some exclusive to the blog. I love your creations, and wouldn’t want to miss one, but I really think some should just be kept here only. Can’t explain it. It’s just the way I feel.
PLEASE – keep posting to both sites 🙂 your work is wonderful and it gives me two chances to make sure I don’t miss it!
I think that you could post at both places but maybe post a couple of exclusives here on your blog. I don’t know. I’d visit both places if I had to. You are doing such a great job on your blog….
