Well I had NO idea what was going on yesterday. Got extremely dark with whipping winds and pouring rain. Weird noises. My pets going a bit wonky (guess they knew??) Living in New Hampshire/Massachusetts all my life a Tornado is something I (thankfully) never had to deal with, let alone worry about, except for the unfortunate people you see on the news.
Well wouldn’t you know it yesterday one whipped through the very next town over, and passed its way through to the other town over. Basically where I live is SMACK in the middle. We were totally missed. Some not so fortunate. I can’t get in touch with one of my friends who lives in where the damage was-but it is summer and she travels a lot to her mom’s in NY. Hopefully they are OK.
So here I am in my basement, with the kids (in my stamp room of course!Thank goodness that is in the basement huh?) they have their little table, coloring books, markers and what not, and Daisy gated in there (with the cats too! LOL! Who came down cause I think they were freaked out too). My space is small. It was crampped and the kids were scared. It was scary out. I don’t blame them one bit. I WAS SCARED! The news did, but didn’t help. Anyway-that is where we spent the afternoon till 6pm. I was nervous about Jay coming home since it was headed his way to where he works. He works in Portsmouth and that and the Maine area were under watch till 7pm. He thought I was being a little dramatic till he saw all the roads closed, trees broken off, and the news footage of just down the road when he got home.
Not till THEN did he realize why I was begging him to come home. Anyway, we are thankful that we are safe now.
Is it just me, or is this world just going crazy? Talk about the weather rebelling the last few years. I mean really!! WHAT is going on. This is just awful. So many people losing their lives to treacherous weather. Weather like we have never had. Having this tornado hit down the street made me realize I’m really NOT safe. The worst part was I had no idea WHAT to do in that situation! No alarm sounded. NOTHING-till it was over. Would there have been a warning? Or would my roof getting blown off have been my warning? Just so scary and sad.
Is this really the effect of Global Warming? Awful.
My point-I had no Internet and it is still on & off! TRUST ME, as much as I LOVE my Internet I am NOT complaining. I missed it but I was thankful to be in one piece. Just know that I am around but my service keeps getting interrupted.
Anyway-here is my sample for today.
Stamp is by Annie LaPoint from MFT and is called Peppermint
OK Im going to be honest and say I have NO IDEA what color this “peppermint” should have been. Nor did I feel like GOOGLING it. I wanted it this color so I took creative liberty and did it. I like not using the expected colors. If it is suppose to be this color then YEAH! LOL!
I used the faux fabric technique I shared HERE
I used Plum Pudding cardstock and ribbon. The paper is from the Guidelines collection.
Lastly Feel Better
I LOVE this set. Sorry it took so long to share this. You would not believe how much stuff I make. Seriously! Much of it before a release, and I have to wait till after X date to share it. In the meantime I am still stamping, so sometimes I forget to share all of my other creations! LOL! This is yet another one. Coming up on another release always reminds me that OOPS!! I have more to share!
Anyway-I actually had the concept for this set Bunny Slippers a while ago. I asked Kim about it and here it is. I realized MFT had real no get well sets, in their signature style, when I had to send a friend a card, and wanted an MFT set. Now I am one happy girl!!!
Bunny slippers and a pink fuzzy bath robe (this one is covered with CUPCAKE velvet flock )were so MY MOM!!! When she wore those bunny slippers till they were ragged, and then I’d hunt to get her another pair. Nothin was better than seeing my mom in her bathrobe, coffee in hand and those bunny ears hopping up & down as she would start the day. It was like a movie really. EVERY time I see bunny slippers I think of my mom. Makes me wonder what my kids will be reminded of for me when they grow up? Probably coffee-anything! LOL!
So the cardstock is sweet blush. I have to say It is my absolute FAVORITE color right now!! I am in LOVE! The flowers are by Maya Road (also velvet) and the little flower centers are the Bella Dots. LOVE THOSE!! I cannot for the LIFE of me remember the paper name :C SORRY!!
Well that is all for today everyone. Blog land has been QUIET!!
I hope you are checking out the Dare to Get Dirty Challenges!!
Tomorrow I’ll be here with my Sat. Sketch!! Hope you can join in. Maybe I should cancel it?? I’m sure everyone is busy with summer. I’ll think about it.
Later 😀 and stay safe.

Oh, please, please, please DON’T cancel it!! I try really hard to get those sketches done. I may not get to it immediately, but I print it out & lay it on my stamp table so the next time I get a chance to stamp – there it is waiting for me. 🙂 Scary stuff about the tornado. Growing up in OK, I know exactly how you felt!
Talk about scary! We do not live in Oklahoma or Texas (where one would expect to have tornatoes)! Crazy! My mom had to talk her way thru a police barricade to get home yesterday and just down the road from us, the road was closed, totally blocked from down trees and power lines.
This morning, on my way to work, the supermarket parking lot was filled with tree trucks, electric bucket trucks, etc. many from places I’ve never heard of! They filled the Twin M parking lot and were parked all up the street in front of the PSNH building and fire station. It was freaky, my friend.
Glad you all are okay. I’ll tell you sometime the panic I had yesterday about my mom and Colby being missing – they were out in the storm and were clueless about what was going on! Oiy!!
Glad everyone is ok. Just rain here all night long. Waiting for the sun now. Great cards. I have some catmint that is purple. Have no idea what color pepermint is either. Great card either way. -Molly B
We live in Kansas so there is always the threat of tornados and I hate it!! Everytime it starts raining my heart starts racing and I have to check the weather to see if anything is going to be severe. I would love for my hubby to get a job somewhere else but I know that now isn’t the time. Glad everyone is ok, but you were right to be in the basement that is the safest place, and always stay away from windows.
I love the bunny slippers set from MFT to, it just looks warm and fuzzy.
Now you see one reason why ” i miss tx”. Living in Alabama, we had a lot of them. Just reading your story….makes me cry. Tornadoes came too close to us, too many times.
We lived about 2-3 hours from the Georgia border. They found our friends personal
identification near there. YIKES! We were at church…just thinking that we would have rainy type weather. In Bible class in the basement, we had no idea of what the weather had turned into. (lucky I took flashlights that my hubby made fun of me for-not anymore:) My sis in law had called the church to warn us, but the phone was upstairs in the office. That always sounded like one of those creepy movies to me.
And my hubby is a Post Man. You can imagine how freaked out I would get. But…
the Lord just took care of us.
I am thrilled that you and your family are okay. Hope that everyone else is good too.
Oh I agree….please don’t cancel the sketch. Unless you are too busy. I am like Paulette, I just print them for later if I can’t get to it that day.
Lauren, I am so happy you all are safe. I grew up in NH, too. My family still lives there and we go back to visit (we live in PA, now). I can only remember my mom talking about a tornado once when I was really little. I agree, it just doesn’t happen there.
I love your cards, Lauren, and please don’t cancel the sketch!
Glad everyone is okay. I guess I’m a little different when it comes to tornados. I LOVE thunderstorms. I know it’s crazy. When we were growing up We’d sit on the front porch and watch them. If the tornado siren went off we’d run in the yard to try and see it and then go in the basement. Mom said none of us were scared of thunderstorms. And I still do that. Anyway, you spent your time in the basement wisely.
Lauren, I’m so glad to hear you are all safe! Those things are so, so SCARY! We were under a tornado watch as well for a couple of hours but none touched down here. We dealt with those the 8+ years when we lived in TN and thought we’d escaped them when we moved to Maine.
I am very glad to hear that everyone is alright Lauren. We had a tornado come through our town back in June, only we didn’t KNOW it was a tornado. My kids were all downstairs playing a game (blissfully unaware) and my husband and I were looking out the kitchen window, amazed at what we were seeing because we had NEVER seen hail like we were seeing, or wind like we were seeing – and the sky was this odd color. At the time we just thought it was a really bad thunderstorm – which we had been having daily that week. Good thing it didn’t come closer to our house.
i saw all of it on the news this morning, and I was praying that it did not hit your house. I live in Texas, tornado alley, We got it on Mothers day 5-9-93. We were home and in the bathroom with me on top of my kids as the roof blew off. It was my sons 12th birthday. We have no basement in Texas that I am aware of. We had major damage to our home and cars. So when the weather turns bad and warnings are issued I start wathcing the clouds and get really nervous, Damian follows me around the whole time, he is deathly afraid of storms. That day will live with me as long as I live. Susan P. S. Please do not cancel sketch time I love your sketches.
Glad you’re ok. We’re in MO and so it’s expected and that’s why we built a tornado shelter in our basement but NH… wow! We want to move to VT or something like that when we’re done with the military hoping that there’s just lots of snow and no tornadoes.
Great cards!!!
What a very scary experience! We’ve never had to experience tornadoes living in So Cal…one too many wildfires, for sure, though! The one “positive” thing about natural disasters is that it really makes you begin to think about how you can be better prepared next time and you go into action instead of just thinking about it. Adorable cards! I’m loving the Dirty Dozen Challenges this week 🙂
So glad you are OK! I live in Nebraska, and tornado watches are a very regular thing here…and when they hit, watch out! Since being here for 5 years, they have hit one mile from us, 10 miles from us, and 3 miles from us. Way too close for me! But grateful to have survived them being all around. When I lived in CT, we NEVER had tornado warnings! It’s not supposed to happen in New England!!!
Have a wonderful weekend, and it sounds like you did just fine, getting everyone into the basement. Take care! 😀
Lauren, sweetie,
How scary for you! I’ve huddled in the basement of Space Camp in Huntsville, AL (I was chaperone-teacher when they had deaf kids from all over USA). The interpreters listening to the radio discreetly signed to us deaf adults without the kids seeing them “It is 5 miles away.” “Heading in this direction.”
Funny story about that time: one of the deaf teachers went to the bathroom. While he was there, the Space Camp people rushed us to the basement for this tornado watch/warning. Hundreds of us had been on the huge main floor working on space missions. The guy came out — everyone was gone! He finally found a maintenance person who rushed him to the basement. Obviously not time for rapture 😉
Reading your post, I do want to say one word, Lauren.
FAITH.
huggerooos,
B
I definitly empathize…we live in earthquake territory and don’t even think about tornado danger, but 9 years ago a tornado ripped thru, right where my husband (then-fiancee) was going to school. It was very stressful watching the news that day. And no, you don’t feel safe. You expect certain dangers and prepare yourself for that, so when something new and just wrong for that area comes along, it really throws you for a loop and yes, scares you to death! I am sorry, but I am glad you are all safe!!
I enjoy your Saturday sketches too!! And I like your purple peppermint. That’s what happens when we get a hold of stamps, we are free to color it OUR way! LOL!
Lauren, so glad you and your family are safe!! I worried about you yesterday because I remembered you said you lived in N.H. It was a very scary time for everyone in your area. Hopefully, you’ll never have to experience a tornado threat again:)
Years ago, when I lived in N.H., I was on my way home from Mass. going up Rt.93 when I heard a tornado alert for Mass. on the radio. All I wanted to do was get home as quickly as I possibly could, all the while keeping my eyes on the western skies. I never did see that tornado, but I remember the terror and trying to think what I would do if I did see it while I was driving.
oh good god lauren! Seriously that is not something we are supposed to hear about in the northeast right? But you are right the last few years the weather is very weird and scary. The other night late we had thunderstorms and I for some reason I thought of tornados and what if it happened here. What do you do, how do you know? Like you say what about a warning! It’s scary! Well glad that things are ok and I hope you hear from your friend.
Great samples thanks for sharing!
Lauren, I am so glad that you and your family are ok. I live in Texas so there is always a threat no matter what time of the year. When I was in college, one actually landed right on top of our college. I was in my dorm (which was heavily damaged) and we lost a building and I lost my car. We had no shelter and I am still shocked to this day that no one was injured. Scariest time of my life.
Lauren, thankful that you all are okay – what a scare! I live outside of Boston and it is rare for tornadoes. First one in Rhode Island and now New Hampshire – the weather is definitely getting stranger!
I love your cozy card – the bunny slippers are adorable! I like the sentiment, too. Let me add my voice to “please, don’t skip the sketch!”
Well Lauren growing up in Missouri and Arkansas I have been through my share of scary weather. I can imagine it’s even scarier when you live in a place where weather like that just doesn’t happen! I’m glad you are all safe and sound.
Now your cards – I have to say I love the get well one! It just looks so comforting. You know that would also work for a birthday card telling someone to relax and take it easy on their special day.
Please do the sketch challenge! 🙂
Hey you – I’m glad you guys are ok…as we chatted away…YIKES. These storms have been pretty violent this year, insane. I’m glad you, the family, and Paulette and her crew are all ok. Spooky.
*I* (‘cuz I’m so important 😉 )think you shouldn’t cancel your sketch tomorrow…if you do it, I promise I’ll play…I’m on a roll this week doing the Dirty Girl challenges, I’ll make time to do your sketch too!!
{{{HUGS}}} friend – stay safe!
I’m so glad that you and your family are ok! Having just gone through this, I can completely understand your frustration and fear. We had sever thunderstorms last night that scared everyone because it hit 100 degrees yesterday and then cooled quickly with all the clouds – I guess those are perfect conditions for forming those little/big devils! And like everyone else, I think you should do your sketch. Think of Dory from Finding Nemo, “just keep stamping, just keep stamping!” :o)
Hi Lauren: Love your cards and for the first card I just had to hunt down what the ribbon on the left was made of, only to find that is a gorgeous piece of cut paper — love that paper. Glad to hear you are ok after the storm. I have been in a couple; one when I was about 8 in northern Wisconsin. Gramps and Gram had to take us kids to the field to huddle in a drainage ditch (no basement) but it missed us. Thank God. Another in Virginia – my son and I rushed to an interior closet (no basement). Only damage was popped out windows and our car was damaged but the houses across the street were missing roofs. Last month we had another — and I live now in the mountains of West Virginia where tornadoes are rare — lots and lots of trees and poles down but we are all safe. Best place is in the basement nearest the wall from which the storm is coming. Stay away from windows. Just before it hits there is an erie silence, then sideways rain, a vacuum in your ears, then your ears will pop and it is hitting. Gone in seconds. Anyway, stay safe and keep inspiring us. —sandy
Tornados? In NEW HAMPSHIRE?!! What is the world coming to? (Why is it so hot in here and WHAT are we doing in this handbasket???)
Gosh! Just glad you are okay… and that you have a basement. I miss the huge basement we had in Massachusetts. They don’t built them in the houses in “Joeja” – everything is a slab. Miss the safety, miss the storage too.
Stay safe!!
~Meredith
Glad you are safe. Some people are saying Global Warming but others are saying what is happening is exactly what is written in the bible and once this is all done it will start from the beginning again.

I kept watching the weather reports all day.
Sorry to hear that you and your family were
all so close to the danger. We just got the
strong winds..thunder/lightning..and lots
and lots (downpour) of rain!!! Glad to hear
that everyone is okay.
With all the stormy weather I have not been
on the computer much either 🙁
I just checked back to see the posts that I
have missed…All are Beautiful!!!
I love the looks of the faux fabric technique…
I really need to try this one 🙂
*Have a wonderful Weekend!!!
Hope we don’t get much rain…yuk!!
I’m so glad you and your family are safe and sound.
OH Lauren…that Peppermint card is simply wonderful!
We are in Mich and so we get tornados several times a year…my kids are always freaked out by the sirens going off. Do you have sirens to warn you in NH?
I live in Illinois although I am a native of New Jersey… so I know what you mean! I have never been even close to a tornado here in Illinois (knock on wood) and instead experienced two wind shear type storms while living on the east coast. My daughter is studying to be a meteorologist and has been on two storm chase trips through her college! When we moved here my son was five and after he had his first tornado drill at school he told me, “Mommy… I don’t think I like tomatoes.” I’m glad you and your family are safe! Mother Nature is one very powerful gal!
Lauren~ Glad your all Ok! We have had weird weather this year, too. Lots of hail. Big hail! So far my house hasnt been hit too bad.Not enough to need siding{dang!I want a new color!} And I got my brand spankin new Trailblazer~ silver so it would show dents, in the garage seconds before golf ball sized hail came pouring down. Talk about God watching out for me! I didnt get the gap insurance on it, like we were told to!Anyways, I dont know what color that peppermint is supposed to be, either. I just pick a copic and color. Take care!Kris
I think what comes to my mind about all of the CRAZY things happening is not Global Warming or anything else people TRY to put it off as but is God saying, (this scripture keeps popping into my head),” Be Still and KnowThat I am God”.
I think maybe God is trying to tell us that He is still in control !
Just my thoughts on all of this mess.
Hope everyone has a quiet peaceful weekend and a lot of stamping gets done LOL
Pam in Ar.
Lauren: So glad you and your family are okay. You’re right about the weather being so weird lately – we had a tornado warning in the middle of our state – Nevada – where it is extremely rare to have one. Glad you had a basement to hide out w/your little ones & your pets – we don’t have one & I have no idea where we would hide out. Thanks again for all your wonderful cards – which is what will remind your kids of you someday, but they won’t see ones as nice as yours!
The night I took Megan to the Hannah Montana movie we came out of the mall theater and overheard someone’s cell phone conversation talking about the alarms on Ft. Campbell going off. I call home to see if it’s true and they tell us to go back into the mall and hang out for a few cause theres warnings and watches. So we pop back into Borders Book store. One employee tells us one touched town somewhere on the other side of the freeway. The cashier looks at us and askes us what we waiting for. (She throws us out into it so shee can lock up at 9 on the dot!) Megan was in tears. I was thinking did you not just hear what’s going on? She holds the door open tapping her foot and tells us to drive safe.
we race to the van and go across the parking lot to Target (who are open till 10)
we look around the store soaked and cold. The light flicker and we can suddenly hear the wind and rain pounding, that makes Megan panic
“What happens if all the light go out, does that mean it here?” I’m trying to keep her calm so I say “we’re ok we’re inside now and if the lights go out I’m sure someone will have a flashlight”
At one point when I headed toward the front to see if it had slacked up any. An employee there who thought we might be leaving stopped me and told me we should stay in the store a bit longer.
There were touchdowns that night 15 mins away on either side of us.
We do get a few warnings here in TN, but that was the worst one for me and the kids.
(In ft. Knox hubby got to watch one from the (barricaded) motor pool.
The house we are in now doesn’t have a single room with no outside walls, I don’t know what we’d do…
I just checked and found a page that lists all the tornadoes that have occurred in New Hampshire during the years 1950 to 1995.
Here is the link: http://www.tornadoproject.com/alltorns/nhtorn.htm
Everyone would like to figure out weather – but no one ever has.
Glad you are safe!
So glad you all are safe!!! How scarey!!!! I grew up in church and was taught that the things happening now, would happen near the end of the earth. It is all in the book of Revelations. Just like it is happening now!! Take care!
OMG!! Tornados?? In New Hampshire?? What’s up with you and Paulette back there?? Jay had better not give you any problems next time you beg him to come home pronto. At least you had your stamps to distract you a bit, the kids had their corner, Daisy & the cats had theirs, but my gosh….tornados?? That’s about as freaky as getting them here in Calif, especially in my neck of the state being as close to the mountains as I am.
The cards are awesome as usual girlfriend and I am just going to have to get some flock for those fuzzy slippers and robe to go with my set.
Lauren, I live in RI and am terrified of thunderstorms, Wed. night the house across the street from us was struck by lightening, no one was seriously hurt and it didn’t start on fire, but when I came home from work there were 4 fire trucks parked in front of my house, talk about scary! So glad you are ok, we have friends in the Dover area and go there occasionly. Love your blog and your talent!
I’m so glad to hear you and your family are okay! I know the weather has been crazy! I live in a small town in Nor. California called Paradise and we have had fires surrounding us for over a month! We’ve been evacuated twice, one came within a little over a mile to our home. Like you, we are okay and our home is safe, but unfortunately there were a lot of families who lost everything. The air quality was hazardous for a month and with a 20 month old it’s hard to explain why you can’t go outside. In response to global warming… I have to say I think it’s just mother nature, I believe she’s going through one of her cycles:) Beautiful cards like usual. Thanks for sharing!
I am glad to hear that you are all okay! I agree that blog land has been quiet, but please don’t cancel Saturday sketch. I am so looking forward to it!
Glad you knew to go to the basement. Under the staircase or against an inside wall, under something stable is safest. Buy a battery radio or a weather radio available at Radio Shack. A couple flashlights and extra betteries should be stored in your safe space. And a blanket or two. And have a land line phone. Many people rely on a cell phone but if the battery is low and the electricity is out, a land line phone is a good back up.
Our area has warning sirens but when a tornado passed a mile from our house, it happened so fast, there wasn’t time for the warning. The window screens flew across the room as I pushed my son (in a wheelchair) away from the windows.
Stay safe.
I’m glad you are safe Lauren and I can see plenty of people have already offered suggestions for your kit. Unfortuntely, I’m been home when a tornado hit our home. It did structural damage and thank God no one lost their lives. Last year our city was hit again by a tornado and once again, we were spared any loss of life.
How scary! So glad you and your family are fine. Someone up there is definitely watching out for you and your loved ones.
:o)
Lauren I am so glad that all is well on the home front. It’s pretty scary when you feel so helpless when your family is involved. I just makes you appreciate them even more when something like this happens.
I love the bunny slippers. They remind me of some I had when I was about 6 years old.
Gosh! I heard about the tornadoes in NH and didn’t realize you lived there. I’m so glad you are all safe. I can’t imagine living without siren warnings… well almost. We have them, but they didn’t help us in early June. My story and photos are on my blog. We were one of the lucky ones too.
Bless your heart girl!
We unfortunately live in Tornado Alley and we go through it often.
This is the first year Marque has been home for it… My son is now obsessed with Tornados and can tell you all about them! We went through a pretty good one last April… afterwards I kept thinking “a mom should never have to sit in a bathtub (no basements here) covered by a comforter, legs intertwined with her baby saying “whatever you do don’t let go”… UGH
Here is a tornado “funny”… when we first moved here, we were getting used to the train whistles… they blow all day/night periodically as we are a hub of some sort for BNSF Railroad. Anyway… one night I heard this whistle, Marque was out of town, and it didn’t stop blowing… I though “huh, that is odd”… then I thought “oh no”. I called the non-emergency # and said “what is that whistle?” the policeman on the other end said “ma’am take cover”…. hahaha I was like “what do I do?”… and he told me what to do, so then I got informed quickly! He must have thought I was an idiot. Makes for a laugh now though.
Hope you are smiling.
Hugs,
em
Glad to hear you all are alright, I do agree it has been crazy weather this past year.
Pretty cards, I especially love the torn piece you stamped on in the first and the use of ribbons!
So glad you are safe! I know this is a late post…I’m catching up on blogs! We get tornadoes quite a bit here in Michigan, not near as many as OK where my son lives. He is studying to be a meteorologist AND he was a storm chaser for a local tv station there. YIKES! Tornado warnings are very scary and we usually have seconds to a couple minutes to get everyone down in the basement!
Take care!
Kim
