My friend Bonnie, has a brother-in-law, who is going through a difficult Cancer diagnosis.
I was asked to make a card for his wife. This is such a hard time for her right now.
These types of cards are always hard for me, for several reasons………
1) Who really wants to make a card for a sad occasion?
2) You need to be careful with what you choose for images, and colors, as well as verses.
3) Its especially hard when you don’t know someone
4) Then comes the writing inside-
Given all the reasons why this type of card is hard it helps me make it though knowing it may make a difference, and that makes it all worth it. Even if you pick the wrong colors, don’t have the perfect words, the receiver will see the time spent to make them a special card, and all will be forgiven-right?
Anyway, so given it was for the couple, I chose to make this card
I personally think I know what NOT to say in a card when going through a Cancer diagnosis. I also know it means a lot just to be thought of, so I hope this covers my bases.
I decided to use Out on a Limb. It is simply said, a GORGEOUS set. The verses are so pretty, and the font sweet, clean and that simple elegance I needed.
I used warm colors-Guava with some gold. Like a sunny paper hug.
Main layer is embossed with my rectangle nestability.
I punched a vellum dove-to add a soft touch to the card. I was happy with the overall simplicity, color , verse and balance of this card.
I pray everything works out for them.
Do you have an ole standby set for cards like this or sympathy? I would love to hear it.
Or, maybe you have a favorite verse/sentiment you use?
I also love an old SU! set-cannot remember the name-I think its called Brighter Tomorrow. Great verses in that one.
I love “Whatever happens God is there to keep you safe within his care”
There are a few other’s in the set as well. I also LOVE Close as a Memory also by Stampin UP!
I think I have some CTMH stuff as well. Need to check. Hopefully I don’t ever have to dust them off!
OK I’m off and inking.
Till tomorrow.

Your card is stunning, Lauren, and seems very appropriate.
Beautiful card for Bonnie’s BIL & SIL…very classy, and perfect given the situation I think…I had planned on using this same set…fitting.
I pretty much use the same sets you mentioned “Brighter Tomorrow” and “Close as a Memory” There are a few CTMH sets I’d like to get, they’ve got GREAT sentiments, but I just keep adding stuff to the list, and usually buy something else first 😉
Thanks for sharing this, it’s beautiful, and I know it will be well received.
This is absolutely gorgeous and seems so appropriate to the situation. I love the thought you put into all your cards and projects – it makes them especially special. Thanks for sharing your heart with us – you are a blessing to me, not just card related, even though we don’t know each other at all.
This card is so lovely and your sentiment is perfect.
Beautiful card and well meaning special sentiment, perfect for the situation!
This is such a beautiful and comforting card. I have Out on a Limb also and love it as it can be used for so many different parts of life. I know this card will be so appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
Cheryl
This is a beautiful card. I’m sure Bonnies BIL and SIL will appreciate it.
Gorgeous card! The colors are so warm but soft at the same time and I love how you used this set and the monogram borders to make a special little flower medallion!!♥
I really love this set, I wish it had less quotes in it actually, and more images, but it is so versatile, there is something exhilarating in making a different branch each time!!….
You have to enter that card for the guest designer of the month!! 🙂
Hello Lauren. What a beautiful card. I actually have a card sitting here right now to mail out. My old standby for sympathy cards is Loving Memories. I love the verses there. Sometimes I use the flowers with it, but like with the card to mail today, I also use the old retired Tractor Time from Stampin’ Up!. I did one years ago for a special neighbor and my DH, the farmer, really liked it and now requests the Tractor Time/Loving Memory sympathy cards for any old neighboring farmers who have passed away. We have received comments back about the cards and how they hit home for these special people, which means so very much then too!
Have a wonderful day!
It’s beautiful Lauren. Let me know if you ever need on the Card for Cancer cards. I’m a little behind on posting the latest ones, but I have a lot of wonderful sentiments. You are the best.
The card is beautiful, and very appropriate. I am sure she will love it, and I hope her DH gets well.
Beautiful card. Love the colors – and yes, they do give off a warm feeling. I am sure they will love it. My favorite set to use in these situations or for Sympathy is SU! All I Have Seen.
I like Jeremiah 29:11 for some of “those” cards, and also Refuge & Strength (esp the one that says “In those times I can’t seem to find God, I rest in the assurance He knows how to find me.”
If I’m not sure whether I want to use a verse, I just use a “you inspire me” or “you’re in my thoughts” kind of thing. So hard though.
Absolutely beautiful!
In a word… beautiful.
I’m sure it will be greatly appreciated by both of them.
Hugs,
Renee
This is beautiful and immensely appreciated I’m sure.
Many Blessings,
M.
This card is just beautiful and so perfect for the situation! I am sure the couple will be touched by it and your kindness!
This is such a beautiful card… Love the colors…
Perfectly beautiful, and just perfect for them…you are amazing! Thanks for sharing this awesome card.
This card is so soft & beautiful! Their both going to luv it & know that they are thought of with love! What punch did you use for the dove & what adhesive did you use for the velum?
Oh Lauren, your own beauty shows through on this card.. It is simply elegant and the words do so go with it… It is very uplifting and sure to bring a smile to the receiver that someone thoughtfully compsed this card.. tfs
Dove is Martha Stewart, and glue dot for the vellum
Beautiful card Lauren. Your colour choices and stamps are perfect! These are always difficult cards to make but you did wonderfully!
This is a beautiful card! The new PTI set is gorgeous and I love the extra touch of the vellum dove! Gorgeous card and it will certainly be treasured.
This card is beautiful. Simply elegant. They will love it, I’m sure.
Your card is PERFECT! She will love & appreciate it. The caregiver needs encouragement just as much as the patient.
Lauren, this is perfect. Marilyn and Gary will both love this card; both for the elegance and especially the love you poured into it. You have me all teary eyed over here. Thank you my friend.
Beautiful card, Lauren — perfect for the occasion!
I think it’s perfect !!!
Lauren, this is a very lovely and touching card. I loathe buying “sympathy” cards as they all seem to be “cut from the same cloth”. The images from Papertrey (Cherry Blossoms) are so appropriate, as they have so many old and ancient meanings. I also adored your referral to a “Sunny Paper Hug” … that says it all and describes your personality so well :o)
This is a lovely, lovey card, Lauren. Your thoughtful, caring feelings shine through. I love it!
Sunny Paper Hug
(previous post didn’t totally post because I had an arrow thingy in it…)
Sunny Paper Hug…I like that!
I like Close as a Memory but I also really lilke Lovely as a Tree, especially for male cards. I think I will make Gary a card now…
I am sorry to hear about both of your friends, but I am sure when they receive this beautiful card it will brighten their day.
When I went through my very scary cancer diagnosis, I would have loved to receive a card like yours! It’s on spot…
This is just beautiful Lauren! I have been eyeballing this set since it came out. Can you believe I don’t own a single Papertrey set?
This is perfect. They’ll be able to feel the love you put into it. I don’t do this kind of card well. I think, like you I know what not to say, but that’s a far cry from eloquently expressing what I think needs to be said sometimes. But I’m going to keep trying.
Beautiful!
