I will be doing another AMAZING mytime mail tomorrow! So dont miss that. A girl has to do something will all these extra goodies. Id rather give them to my regular readers!
AND tomorrow Im gonna share a cool lightbulb moment with you all. So check back here.
HINT it does involve Stampin Up!
Well, lets get to my first card (above). This post of cards features ALOT of things I LOVE. I LOVE making birthday cards. The stamp set used on both cards is called Happy Birthday
I am so addicted to my scalloped punches, its really insane. When I saw this paper, by Sassafrass called Raspberry Ripple I went nuts.
So I stamped my cake on my circle in RED! Used my copicmarker, and singlo gel pen to color.
HERE COMES THE COOL IDEA PART
I then took out my super cool FOAM shapes from American Crafts, and layered them to mimic the paper design. While doing that I removed a plastic divider in the canister to get to the shapes on the bottom of the container-WELL, here comes the COOL FOUND OBJECT! See the acetate circle OVER my cake? That my friends is the divider from the canister! Cool huh???? I was proud!
I also pierced around the rectangle with my Onare template.
Who can really eat just ONE cupcake? OK in a crowd maybe, but if you are home dont tell me you wont sneak another? No? OK maybe thats why I need to go back on my diet! LOL!
I just love this paper by SEI called Penelope’s Potpourri. MANY of you have emailed me cause I ahven’t provided a link for it. Well, Im sorry, I got it at a stamp expo and dont know where to get it online! Otherwise Id LOVE to link you 😀
The card is pretty basic-just stamped my cupcakes that were colored with my SU! Markers. Popped out with my scalloped rectangle punch. Added some bling to the “flame”
Sentiment is stamped on vellum cardstock. Ribbon was by CTMH.
That it! Now celebrate something!
Id love to hear what your favorite birthday traditions are or favorite kids of cake! Heck, share your favorite recipe!
My youngest, Amber is turning 3 August 13th. We are having a party on the 4th. I need to get planning!!!!!!!!!!!
MY favorite cake-HMMMMMM I love it all.
Birthday tradition-I never went to work/school on my birthday EVER!
For my kids I alway buy the other ONE thing and wrap it to help ease the jealousy of the b-day child and that way they leave the new toys alone!
I always like to have a “theme” and fun craft. We of course always get a professional photo for their b-day too.
Other than that I think thats it.
OK, your turn!

Well, one of my bday tradition is that since my bday lands on St. Patrick’s Day (hence the name) we always go to Bennigan’s. Now that I’m older, is harder to get people on that day together, so if we do it on an ‘off’ day, I make everyone wear green, and go to a restaurant and act like it’s St. Patty’s day all over again. Oh, and DH has always made a point to bring the cake to the restaurant ahead of time, so we can have cake there w/ friends.
You reallly are a Rocking Blogger!!! Your cards are the bestest…I just love the pink one…sooooo neat. Keep ’em coming!
Love that polka dot cupcake card!
Your paper and ribbon are the perfect pair!!
Great cards, and cool find!
Birthday traditions??? Don’t know that I have any really…I don’t work on Shannon’s b-day (though this will be the first year when it could be an issue, but plan to take off…and likely will for the new baby as well)…
My favorite cake??? Took me a while to find it, but my favorite is ice cream cake from Baskin’ Robbins…mmmmm the first year, all I wanted was vanilla ice cream and yellow cake (I’m kind of a plain kind of gal) and Nick didn’t realize they had to be ordered days in advance, so like any guy, he went looking the day before my b-day or the day of (I can’t remember) and had to take what he could get…Pralines & Cream IC with yellow cake…I think it’s my favorite…Nick asks me every year what I would like, and sometimes I change it, but that’s pretty much my main choice…I still have 1/2 a cake in my freezer….mmmmmmm Before that I guess it would be good old Duncan Hines Yellow cake with chocolate frosting…right out of the can…no need to get all fancy for me 🙂
Happy early b-day to Amber!
very cool cards!
Birthday cards are also my favorite kind of card to make. I just love the pink card! It’s always fun to find something cool to add to your project too. I don’t have any birthday traditions, but I love birthday cake!
Cute cards! And I love your new banner too! 🙂
I lvoe the first one the most! I love the colours and the layout!
I cant think of any bday traditions. My youngest DD is turning 3 next week. We’re gonna have brownies for the cake, and have an ice cream sundae bar. We’re just having family over though- that’d be a MESS with a bunch of 3yo’s.
Super idea for your found item. I love working with transparencies and putting it into a circle shape like that is perfect! What did you use to adhere it?
I adhered my circle transparency with glue dots. You simply place them on an inconspicuous/colorful area and then it won’t show through!
Favorite cake – turtle cheese cake! (I am wierd and don’t like regular frosting)
Birthday traditions – my parents never had much money and parties were kinda out of the question – so my mom always made our favorite meal for dinner and then we got to pick which flavor cake box she would make.
For my kids I usually let them pick the theme but the party is still at the house and is mostly family – there are so darn many of us around! (I only have 2 kids – but include all the aunts, uncles and cousins and that is a house full) The best was the army party my oldest son had when he was 4. There wasn’t a war going on and the camo stuff wasn’t all that readily available in the party catalogs, so I made everything including the army helmet camo cake (I baked the cake in a bowl and flipped it and then painted camo colored frosting all over the helmet)
btw – I love that polka dot paper too!
Awesome paper on the top card. Yummy. My favorite kind of cake is cheesecake (almost any kind), seconded close by angelfood. Hmmmm… I wonder if they make an angelfood cheesecake?
My birthday is a week before Chirstmas so growing up it was always the same-wait until Christmas. Phooey! For years as an adult I would contruct the tree and decorate on my special day but after having a cat bite thru the wire on the lights one year and tearing it all down (he was okay just nuts after) I no longer do that or celebrate my birthday. I chose Haloween as my substitute birthday and make carrot cupcakes instead. SO what did I do instead-I had a kid on Thanksgiving as I am stuffing the turkey for the family and it was my dad’s birthday too. At least her’s fluxuates each year.
Both of your cards are very pretty. I enjoy looking at your blog daily. My husband and I celebrate our birthdays each year by buying a cake for one another. We both love the Best Cream gold Cakes fron Hannaford. Yumo! We always get each other way to many presents, take lots of pictures and we do this at midnight. Then when we wake up that day our children come over and we have cake and ice cream. 🙂
Lauren, I *love* cupcake stamps. Could you please tell me where you purchased the cupcake stamp that you used on your second card? Thanks.
Mary
Hi Mary and everyone-The cupcake image is from the same set as the first card-Happy Birthday by Lizzie Anne. Click the link above! Thanks
I’m partial to the cupcake card. My favorite birthday cake is German Chocolate cake. Having a summer birthday, though, sometimes if the season hits just right, I love to celebrate with strawberry shortcake: only if the shortcake is homemade, the strawberries picked that morning, and fresh whipped cream on top!
taking the day off for your birthday is the best idea. I always take the day off for my 3 yr old son’s b-day. I figure… I was there when he was born, I can take a day off to celebrate it every year. Shh, don’t tell my boss!
CUTE card! Love the cake stamped in RED! And the cupcake one is even cuter! I have some of that polka dotted paper!! Let’s see…my favorite cake has got to be chocolate with chocolate icing! And make it a corner piece, with milk, please! Our birthday tradition is that the Birthday person gets to pick where we go for dinner and we go *on* the actual birthday.
Cute cards Lauren!!! They look yummy enough to eat! I have to say, chocolate cake is my favorite! I wish I could say I never worked on my b-day. However, I never went to school on my b-day since it’s in July. I was always jealous of the other kids though who had b-days during the school year and got sang to. Oh well, for many of my birthdays I was at Disneyland. Can’t complain about that!
I found a link to buy the paper on the second card…The paper is called “adorned dot” in the Penelope’s Potpourri collection by SEI – available through http://www.shopsei.com it is 0.75 a sheet.
Love the birthday cards! Very cute -and I liked the acetate over the cake – what a neat
idea!
Let’s see, birthday tradition – the only one we had growing up is that the birthday person gets to choose the kind of cake they want! My dad always wanted white cake with vanilla frosting and coconut. Me, I always wanted chocolate cake with pink frosting! Haven’t had that in years! Now, the minimum requirement for my birthday – is that I have a cake – DH usually makes one with the kids.
My favorite kind of cake is carrot with thick, sweet cream cheese frosting. Yummm……..
My favorite cake is a home made chocolate cake with peanut butter icing and miniature chocolate chips sprinkled on top. I make it for a lot of get togethers. And I double the icing recipe so it is extra thick. Mmmmmm. I need cake!!!
Each year for our daughter’s birthdays, my husband goes and finds an amazingly soft, cuddly stuffed animal and I always get them a bouquet of a dozen roses. I figure every girl deserves roses on her birthday. We also do the professional pictures and a theme birthday.
My only birthday tradition growing up was that my Mom and Dad would make me one of those cakes in the shaped cake pan that you decorate yourself. Oh, and since my birthday is 10 days before Christmas, my mom always made sure to NEVER wrap my birthday presents in Christmas paper! I love that you never went to work or school on your B-Day. LOVE the found circle! When I first saw the card, I thought: “Now how the heck did she do that…” 🙂

[…] circle. I used a scrap acetate circle to overlay them. I LOVE that idea I had a while ago from THIScard. Got some use from my Photo Corner punch by SU! I will say its pretty […]
