I will share my story of Noah’s first game. After a comment I briefly made about it alot of people were wondering “WHAT” happened. Here is the “story” of our tourturious game!
Here is my boy! This is Noah at hist FIRST T-Ball game. He is on the Angels, and is number 11.
He was SO EXCITED to go to his first game. He got up an hour earlier than normal, and got all dressed in his uniform.
As we approach the field he says” No I want to go home. I don’t want to play!” We were like “What?”
Anyway, we get onto the field and Noah does NOT want to be there. He begins to scream and cry. It was quite mortifying. This photo above is him in the field. He was between first and second base.
He did eventually “get into it” but he did alot of this! He didn’t WANT to have fun. He is very sweet and outgoing so we do not understand why he was acting out so much.
First time at bat-coach Rob
sets Noah up, Noah swings, then runs for home!
See that BIG smile? You’d never know he had an ALL OUT crying tantrum about batting before this photo! Everyone was cheering him on! He needs SO much reinforcement.
After another bout on the field he wouldn’t get off the field. He would not walk so I had to literally carry him off. He was warned, but insisted he wasn’t leaving or playing. He ended up kicking me with his Cleats and hitting me numerous times with his glove! It was awful! I could NOT believe he would act like this! This is where my embarrassment had taken an all time high! At that moment I would gladly have been in labor in place of his first t-ball game anyday! What an awful time we had encouraging him. Jason is a phenomenal father! Noah is SO lucky to have a dad like him. My brother and I would have killed for what he has. Jason was so patient and even ran the bases with him. It was so fun when he let himself “go”. Someday when he’s famous these photos will sell for millions.
Noah after running home-giving Daddy hi-5!
So here is yet another REAL MOM moment. No fudging stories or cutesy tales. This was the truth. Someday it will be amusing. SOMEDAY!

I have a few stories just like that of my own, lol! With three boys who have all been involved in soccer and baseball since they were 3 years old and a dad that is very athletic, you can bet we dragged a few kids on AND off the fields! Trust me, it DOES get better! He’ll get comfortable with his coach and team and experience some success hitting and catching and you’ll have a superstar on your hands! Cute (to me) story!
I remember these days!!! I promise you it will get better! The first couple of games are mortifying for the little ones. (And the parents!!!).
One day you will look back on this and have a good laugh. I can imagine at the time though that were were horrified!!
I absolutely LOVE the last picture, the one of Noah and Jason…THAT is beautiful, in a guy-like way 😉
I can see how you would have rather been in labor, but these are the things that make lasting memories, right?? Hopefully next game will go a little easier…I’m sure once he gets used to it he’ll be fine, I’m sure he was nervous about playing in front of ‘all those people’…I know I would be!!
Thanks for sharing that ever so real Mommy story with us!
That is such a sweet, sweet, story! Kids just respond so differently than we think sometimes, huh? You are a lucky woman with a wonderful family! :0)
These are great pics! And such a sweet story, I know as time goes by, you’ll really get a good laugh!
Brought tears to my eyes to see what awesome parents Noah has….that is such an endearing photo of him with his Dad running with him!
Lauren, I feel your pain. My son did the EXACT same thing the first time he played soccer. Maybe I shouldn’t tell you this– but it lasted all season! He wouldn’t even stand for the team photo! The photograph thought it was precious (obviously not an embarrassed Mom…) and took a photo of Brosnan crying while he sat on a soccer ball away from the other kids. One of these days it will be cute in a scrapbook, but even 4 years later it’s a bit painful to look at! Anyway, the good news is he has gone to play many, many sports and has been the star on his 7 year old soccer team. Hang in there! Just remember, this too shall soon pass! With such loving and supportive parents, how could it not?
I fell your pain and know what you mean about all of it!!! MY child is the one on the soccer field picking dandelions and the one on the baseball diamond making little hills in the infield dirt/sand. Hmmm.
I LOVE the last pic of Dad & Noah – the eye contact just between them and the “high-5” about to happen. Photoshop out the Porta-Potties 🙂 and you have yourself a winner!!
Oh, Lauren, what an awesome story… and the pictures to go along with it! Believe me alot of moms (and dads, too) go thru times like that… and as Rebecca mentioned, someday you’ll look back and laugh at the memories! Thanks for sharing!
Oh Lauren…how precious (in a sort of embarassing way)! The pictures are AWESOME and what a great story to scrapbook…the good, the bad, and the ugly! Kids are great aren’t they? Give him (and the rest) a big hug!
Lauren,
Maybe Noah and Caleb should be on the same team. My child who runs everywhere goes at a snail’s pace from base to base. He also hates the batting helmet. Stefan reminds him of that line from A League of their Own – “There’s no crying in baseball!” These pictures are so cute. Hope it goes a little more smoothly next time.
Lauren–you are right–those pictures are priceless! I know you were just mortified, but it IS a good story! I just loved the “high 5” picture–
